though the os--linux is free..
still ppl love to buy costly os-windows,
by microsoft..
doesnt it shows that sumwhere/sumprobs??

Well look at it this way. Time is money. Linux can take around 3 days to get it up and running with drivers for all your hardware. 3 days, 8 hours a day, and let's say $10/hour. That's $240 worth of time wasted on an operating system that can't run as many programs as Windows and can barely run any games beyond solitaire. Since Windows XP Home only costs around $89 on newegg.com, I'd say it's the better buy of the two.

It is simply because of being popular of windows and it has a wide software support. There are many software developers that developed a software that will run only in windows

yeah the problem is people are introduced into the world of computers (mostly in schools) on a PC having MS Windows so they get used to it and eventually uses it...
