Do dogs fear people with *hats*?

Dogs can develop fear of any person, place or thing. Considering that the same thing happens in humans, this isn't surprising. When a dog reacts fearfully to a man, people tend to jump to the conclusion that a man has abused the dog in the past. Possibly that is the case, but often it's a problem of lack of early social experience with men. Men, women, children, people wearing big hats, people in Halloween costumes and a wide variety of other human presentations can spook dogs who have not experienced that "style" of person before.

I've met several dogs that were set off by people wearing hats, I also met one that would also bark at men with a beard. I think it is because dogs don't really get the concept of clothes, the outline of our bodies is part of how they identify us. If we wear something that really alters that outline, they think we are strangers, or maybe they even think we are a different animal altogether for a moment. If you wore hats a lot, I bet the dogs would probably not notice because they were accustomed to it. Sometimes the reaction also has to do with some negative experience in the dog's past, like it was scared or hurt by some one wearing a hat, so they think all people in hats are mean. It really seems to depend on the dog as to weather they remember things like that or not.

no i never had a problem.... i don't think we will attract there attention by wearing hats.... anyway it is based on things happened to that animal...
