They made it public?? Wow - proves how much I haven't been paying attention!!
I have been using a gmail account since around 2005 i think. I had friends who jumped onto the gmail bandwagon early and i managed to get an invite out of that.
I do enjoy some features of it but I don't use it as my primary webmail.
The best thing gmail ever did was throw some competition into the ring against yahoo mail and hotmail. At the launch of gmail they both had piddly little mb amounts that you could have in your account ... i believe hotmail was 3 or 4 mb and yahoo was 8. Gmail made them rethink how much space to give their users! I believe gmail improved the other 2 mail servers over 100%!

I use gmail and it's great, much improved now you can delete all messages at once. I was getting dangerously close to actually filling the unfillable when I could only delet a page at a time. I don't use it exclusivly and also use hotmail, yahoo and my gdi ones.

I was one of the beta testers. And you are right, once you get used to it, every other emailing service feels inadequate.

Yes, I have been uding it for 2 years now, since the 2nd quarter of the year 2005. I really like it, especially the really good search function. The very large number of space is also great. Two thumbs up to gmail! :)+

I use gmail, but I use it through my Apple Mail software application. Gmail's design (on the web) is just hideous. The inbox page is cluttered with too many words. It's distracting. And functions that I use are hidden under links. From a design perspective, it's a total disaster. It's a good thing it offers 2 gigs of space for free. Otherwise, I wouldn't use it at all.
