I've lived my whole life in Toronto except for the past four years because I'm studying in the US for college. My girlfriend and I have save enough money to travel to Toronto and since it has been a while I wanted to know what are good affordable restaurants in the downtown district besides the usual fast food chains.

Dangerous Dan's - Queen and Broadview, just a little East of Downtown.
Enormous portions, very good prices, bad for your health.
They have the following types of food on the menu:
"Collosal Colon Clogger Combo"
"Coronary Special"
etc
Worth a try once in a while though...

$10-14 per meal isn't easy to do in our city(I live here in Toronto, so I should know), however, it is possible.
If you like Chinese food, anywhere besides Mandarin have good cheap meals, less than $10.
*grabs the phonebook for the restaurant guide*
Lets see....Pickle Barrel- pretty good place to eat downtown.
Shopsy's Deli. A great place right downtown with the greatest hotdogs.(of course they serve other items too!)
That's all I can really think of right now, but you'll find some good places while you're here.

Pickle Barrel - Yonge and Dundas
Spring Rolls - Bay and Dundas
Spadina Garden - Bay and Dundas
Salad King - Yonge and Dundas - very popular but I am not a big fan
Mr. GreenJeans - Eaton's Centre - Yonge and Dundas
Swiss Chalet - if you haven't been to Toronto in a while, you must not forget this.
There is one at Yonge and College.
You can probably guess the area I work in...
If I think of any others, I will re-post.
