Where does Santa live- in south pole or in north pole?

i think the reason that Santa was said to live in the North Pole is because the North Pole was much more well known to the people that sainted Saint Nicholas. i would imagine that the South Pole was nearly unknown for much longer.
The inhabitants of the greater norther european countries would have had at least some familiarity with at least the idea of a North Pole - as the "Dutch" were much more northern. I come from the "states" and am not catholic - this is my best guess.
