Yahoo (an hindi word) is an excalamation mark, used when you are really excited and yells it when you achieve something really great. it is the most commonly used word and much easier to spell and remember so i think this was choosen

there is also a superhit song in hindi which is picturised on shammin kappor, the actor, it starts like this "Yahoo"!
