How often do you bathe your Chow Chow?

My brother's girlfriend gives our chowchows a bath every two days. Is this good or bad? Too much bathing?

Bathing any dog every two days is way too much. You can cause dry skin and take out the natural oils in their fur. Which can lead to other problems. If it's really necessary that you wash your dog often, try to do it just once a week at the most.

Because of time constraint s, we can only bathe the doggies now only once a week.

Just once a month, so that their natural oils wont be stripped off their coats. Giving them frequent bathes could wash off these natural oils which could dry and irritate their skin. As long as they dont get dirty, they dont have to be bathed as often as we are.

If they start getting dandruff then their skin may get too dry...or at least that's the case with my Sheltie. Since they're too different breeds, maybe I could be wrong.

Chow Chows have a unique coat and the less you bathe them the better. Obviously if they are filthy, give them a bath. But every 2 days is too much for any dog unless they are going through a special regimen when they have mange. Some people bathe their chows once a year, or every few months unless they get filthy/dirty.

Once or twice a month is plenty good. Long, fluffy coated dogs like Chow Chows, Shelties, and Samoyeds do just fine if you brush them daily, or a few times a week, and when you do bathe them, make sure you're scrubbing all the way down to the skin, rinsing really well (to avoid allergies from the shampoo), and using a good quality shampoo. There's some shampoos for dogs with deoderizers to keep them smelling better longer, and some really good conditioners that smell nice as well, and will also protect the coat so it can't pick up too much stink and yuck before the next bath. I also use a spray called The Stuff, which really keeps them clean. A regular doggie cologne will work well too, and you can use it daily between baths. Try www.jefferspet.com for really great shampoos, conditioners, and sprays at really low prices. I buy all my stuff there!

o.0 bathing them takes atleast 2 hours to finish. but if you have the luxury of time why not... But i suggest bath them at most ones week... but if they smell too much like after bathing them 2 days after they smell again you can... =) but if they don't smell bath them ones a week or twice a month will do =) if your brother's gf gives you the reason because she hugs them often and don't want them to smell bad. she can buy a pet cologne spray ones in a while b4 she hugs her chow. Take note also tell her for the sake of her chows coat please don't bathe the chow every after 2 days... bathing them often will not allow the coat to bloom. the best asset the chows have are their coats. It is best if she will just bath her chow twice a month or on weekly basis only =)
