How do you find your best pal? How do you sure that he/she is not using you?

My best friend and I have been friends since we were in 6th grade. We're both 34 now, so it's been a very long time. I'll admit that I have been burned a lot, so I tend to keep to myself now. I don't have near as many friends as I used to, but the ones that I do have I am close to.
