a frivolous god?

i see by reading a few discussions on religion that it a very touchy subject but i would like to point out that god is not a frivolous god. there are however silly people who think that god should intervene every time they feel he should. think of the civil war in the states. what possible prayer could god answer? and to who's detriment? he gave us free will. would you have him rescind? please think long and hard on god. the subject is overwhelming to even the greatest of thinkers throughout the world and throughout history.

What qualities and expectations should a person asign to "God"? What is reliable about him? I know many christians who believe in him as a protector and guide even though there are numerous cases of christians meeting unfortunate ends or becoming severely misguided in their beliefs.

sorry for the delay in responding. i fear a working man like me might have to apologize more than once. great question. however it is hard to answer until i understand your thoughts on free will, which god has given us.

c'mon, odin, even a non christian cat or dog will eat itself to an early demise. wide is the path but narrow is the way. it would seem to me that you have more questions than answers. i guess in that regard we are very much alike. but, you know ,at some point we need to go with our hearts if not our instinct. i wonder how old you are, because you sound just like me. 46 years have tempered me and i believe, have given a small measure of wisdom and [insight] into a world beyond this. we are not mice. my grandfather told me that if he was wrong, that perhaps the bible was wrong, then he had lost nothing and yet led a gr and and wonderfullife. by the way did i tell you i live in gods country?....newfoundland and labrador....haha

Free will is difficult when you have a creator who makes the mold and also is supposed to be taking an active interest in his creations life. Consider how we come to our views and beliefs through what we learn and experience, if a perfect God has the qualities of a perfect precognitive teacher then no student is too difficult the teach. The inherant desire of all beings is happiness and any path sufficiently shown to be the most viable way to it will be embraced by any being. If say, Christianity is true, there would be no christians if they couldnt be convinced through experience and their logic that it was the best path to take. I do believe there is a free will beyond experiences and upbringing but that it is heavily influenced by them.

Firstly, I see you are new to myLot, so welcome. I hope you will spend many happy hours here. You are so right. People do treat God in a variety of ways and in a frivolous manner. They seem to think they can ignore Him and allow Him no part in their lives, and then complain and blame Him when something goes wrong. God is God. God is Supreme. God is total authority, but He has given us the right to go our own way and choose our own path. When we DO go our own way, we are on our own and accept the responsibilities of our own choices. When we choose to know, love and obey the Lord God, He undertakes for us. I have known, loved and served my loving heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ, for 48 of my 70 years and I have never known Him to fail me. Every one of His promises is true and dependable. He has given me a full and abundant life. "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain"

Not at all, God is not frivolous. He has given us His Word - the Holy Bible. He has given us everything we need for our own welfare. He has given us wisdom to be able to know what to do in any given situation. God is not our slave that we command Him to do this or to do that especially when things go wrong resulting from our own mistakes or misdeeds.

we certainly do and even the most vehement of deniers shout his name in times of greatest despair. once again god on the mountain, is still god in the valley.
