Is it good to flatter your way to the top at work?

This one has really bothered me for a long time. Is it better to work hard or flat out attache your self to the bosses rear end. Kiss it till your above people that are genuine hard workers that just want to get recognized for there efforts. Instead of lies and flattery.

Of course I think that it is better to work hard and to succeed based on your hard work, knowledge, skills, and capabilities. These qualities are more admirable than someone who sleeps their way up the ladder or kisses up to the bosses. These people are fake. They may think that they are succeeding, but they are not, and eventually this will become evident. It's very hard to work alongside one of these individuals, I know. You may be working your butt off and they will get the promotion or the pat on the back because they have an "in" with the boss. Just keep in mind that eventually you will be rewarded for your hard work, and if nothing else you can hold your head high and be proud of your good work ethic.

Thanks but I'm still waiting. I'm just waiting for them to fall on their faces. Also what does that say about the bosses not seeing it for what it is. Makes me lose respect for them. Then I start wondering if this is the job for me.

Unfortunately, from what I have seen the bosses love it. And it is in a lot of places. Because you change companies doesn't mean that it isn't happening there too.

I work in a corporate office n there r about 80 business developing managers across the globe. When i started this job i was very honest wid my first assignment bt wen i didnt get a single appreciation and the one who didnt do nythin got a good response i was really annoyed n planned to quit this job..then for my second assignment i didnt do a single thing on my own..Even wen i knw how to do it i always asked my seniors and discussed everythin wid them..this made me a little famous at work and even my seniors were aware that i was workin..So i neither flatter anyone at the same time i didnt give up on my self respect,.It jus a try..Now i handle everythin on my own n still my work gets recognised..one trick n it worked for me :)

This has always been something that annoyed me. I worked for a big company for several years and I was always a hard worker. But I would always see people kissing up to the "big wigs" in the company. Of course it always seemed they went somewhere. I never kissed up to anybody and after watching what some other people would do was glad I didn't do the same they did since I could sleep at night.

Hell yeah I wont do it either. Little things like dignity and self respect keep me from kiss up. I guess the ones that do probably feel bad about themselves.
