"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10
"For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to uphold you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
Plus the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 13.
Thanks for posting such a lovely topic. ^_^

jules77: Amen to that.^^ It's such a cool thing to remember everytime we feel like things are spinning out of control.. like what I like to say - "We may not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future." \m/^_^
lonnieN: Yes, it is a fantastic chapter!^^ I'd also like to add Hebrews 11 - what I call the Faith chapter. ^_^

"There is a time for every season, a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to love, a time to hate, a time to sow, a time to reap." There is much more to it, but I really do love this in a chapter taken from the Bible. These words taken from a book in the New Testament are my favorite verse.

My favorite verse in the bible is God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble so we will not fear even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Psalms 46, 1-2
God is there for us when nothing can help us, he is all powerful and he will not fail us when we go to him.

I have a lot. lol
But the bottomline is, most of my favorite verses are about how HE loves me.
Psalm 34: 8 - 9 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD appeared to us in the past,[a] saying:
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

the 23rd psalm,
the lord is my shepherd I shall not want...
is the passage I try to hold on to the most as I go through the troubles of life.

"Religion" is merely an institution...and Karl Marx did, indeed, say that "Religion is the opiate of Society".
However, I'm convinced that if "religion" hadn't been as powerful and influencial in world events and affairs over History, we'd all be in a worse situation than we're currently in today. Indeed, without the fundamental concepts of religious teachings, what would our laws and social mores be founded on? Can we really trust mankind to adopt "right actions", "right behaviors", "right attitudes" ? Somehow, I don't see it happening...not yet anyway...not until God actually DOES "write his Word upon the HEARTS of man", as the propet Isaiah tells us God will one day do. I wish it could happen sooner, rather than later, but I know it's all in His time.
Good luck!

I think my favorite book in the bible is the Song of Solomon, I adore the imagery and the passion for which it was written. It is a book for lovers of all generations. My Favorite verse in the Song of Solomon is 5:16, His mouth is most sweet: yea he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved and this is my friend.

Jdges, chapter11.
Jephthah made a bargain with God that, if God would guarantee Jephthah's victory over the Ammonites, Jephthah would sacrifice as a burnt offering whatsoever come first to meet im after the fight. It was his daughter and God did not see fit to intervene on this occasion to save her.

The Bible is full of my favorite verses, and I don't think I can fairly choose just one. When I read the Bible, I think of it more as a broader 'thematic-guidebook', full of examples and proof of God's unlimited Love and patience.
I am especially fond of the 'one-liners' that Jesus spoke to a population that He found lacking in their professed service and worship of His Father in Heaven. Jesus was constantly frustrated with the mediocre pretenses He witnessed, and tried to warn them of their lack, but many did not want to hear it because they were comfortable in their ways. I think it's the same today...many of us tend to forget His teachings about Love, mercy, forgiveness, integrity, honesty, etc. If only we all could actually adopt His lessons and instructions; wouldn't it be a wonderful world then?
I WILL leave you with the two verses that Jesus taught as being the 'summation of the Law & the Prophets', and ones that very often comes to my mind as reminders of what I may lack myself:
-"Love God with all your heart, mind, body, soul and strength", and
-"Love your neighbor as you love yourself".
Jesus said that if we really could adopt and practice these, then God would be pleased with us. Certainly not an easy undertaking, but LET'S ALL TRY, SHALL WE?
