Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was not for equality or giving blacks rights, he was just simply against slavery? He is one of my favorite people in history and I was suprised to learn that he was set in his views towards the limitation of blacks in society. However, his abolishing slavery was so wonderful, this goes overlooked, I just found it odd that he was so opposed to blacks having rights. I feel that we have a long way to go to make things equal. We have just touched the surface to breaching equality. We owe it to society to keep pressing forward to even the slate.

I don't know about his feelings towards blacks in particular, but there were many people opposed to slavery in general.
I could never understand the rationale behind slavery in America in the first place.
The colonists fled England so they could worship as they pleased. They used the Bible which tells us that slavery is wrong, yet they did it anyway.
You would also probably be surprised to know that slavery was not the major reason for the Civil War, although it was a contributing factor.
The Civil War began because some of the states no longer wanted to be ruled by the Federal Government and wanted to secede from the Union.
The Civil War was the beginning of the end for the dream of the Free Nation that the Founders had envisioned, because the Federal Government forced it's will on those States that wished to be free of Federal Rule.
America is very different today then what was intended, and more rights are eroded as time goes on.
