We're supposed to get eight hours sleep every night on average to stay healthy, or so the experts tell us. So who here actually does manage to get their full eight hours sleep every night or most nights? Do you get more, or less? Do you think it's important to get eight hours sleep each night?
I try my best to get my eight hours sleep, but i usually find it's more like seven hours, or even less. At the weekends i try to make up for it a bit by having some lay-ins. I really do feel worse if i don't get my eight hours sleep each night. What's your oppinion?

Now a days really its difficult to get eight hours sleep every night. After returning from work we have to spend some time with our family. Then going out for dinner or some parties. If not then for shoping.Otherwise get engaged in some other works. In the morning get up early to prepare breakfast of the family. Then make children ready for school. So just dream of 8 hours sleep.

I personally typically get 6-7 hours a night during the work week. On weekends though I tend to sleep anywhere from 9-18 hours on a saturday (if I have nothing pressing to do) and 8-12 on a sunday (again if there's nothing pressing to do).
I find that my lack of sleep during the week causes a weekly exhaustion and that is why I sleep extra long on a saturday. I actually have extra stresses more then normal going on right now that is also contrubuting to my exhaustion. I'm getting married in about 2.5 months.. and with all the wedding planning and making sure everyhing is properly set.. I find it horribly exhausting..
I also find that as I get older i get exhausted much more easily and need more sleep. I could more then survive on 5-7 hours in my 20's, but now in my 30's My real NEED is 9 hours.. at 9 hrs.. I'm fully alert and full of energy..

Oh how we need our precious snooze. Like most folk I make the mistake of staying up too late despite having work in the morning. But the older I get the more I discover that your body shouts HEY I NEED SLEEP! so I must catch some zeds.....
Peace.

Normally, I do get my eight hours. I usually go to bed around 11pm and get up anywhere between 7 and 8am.
I think everyone is different. Some people can get by on 5, 6, or even 4 hours of sleep. Healthwise though, from what I've read, it is best to get 7 or 8.

8 hours of sleep what is that? Ever since I became a mother 11yrs ago I have yet to have a full nights sleep. My youngest is now 3 and I might actually be able to start getting a full nights sleep. We will see over time.

I think it depends on the person for the amount of sleep needed. Some people need 8, others 7 and still others 9 or 10 hours. I don't usually get 8 hours sleep. I usually get 7 to 7 1/2 hours and that seems to be just the right amount for me. If I'm sick I tend to sleep more than that. If I don't get enough sleep I feel bad too. My worst problem is headaches I can't get rid of no matter what I do or take. The only way to make them go away is to get more sleep.

I do..in fact sometimes more than eight hours..lol Today I slept in and got up very late, I slept for around 9 and 1/2 hours. We went to bed at around 1:30 am last night and consequently I couldn't get up at my regular time. I definitely need my 'beauty' sleep and my day is messed up if I don't sleep well. It is advised to sleep for 8 hours but everybody has a fast paced life and most of them can't sleep for 8 hours at a stretch.

I need a lot of sleep. Probably why the last 2 days when I have had to get up at 6am I have been really cranky by lunchtime. I am a light sleeper and take ages to get off to sleep. To get 8 hours in when have an early shift coming up I would need to go to bed about 8pm.
Some people don't need 8 hours, maybe they just get better quality sleep in a shorter timespan, quality over quantity.
If I did all late shifts then I would sleep better, am a night owl not a lark.

I don´t, because I suffer from insomnia. That means that I usually go to bed far too late, because I´m just not tired. Consequences: when I get up in the morning I feel and look like a zombie.
Yes, I think it´s important to get 8 hours sleep at night. I need to sleep for that amount of time to feel human.

I really can't function properly if I don't get a complete 8 hours. I mean, I usually do not get a full 8 hours, but I'm left feeling completely out of it all day. I have problems falling asleep, so I take Lunesta, which helps a bit. I sleep very little during the week, and then every so often I'll spend a whole weekend catching up with missed sleep.

Sometimes I get the suggested 8 hours, but more often than not its 6 or 7 hours. I feel much more relaxed after the full 8 hours and the day passes so much better.

I usually manage about 6 hours, after I have woke up if I let myself I can usually go back to sleep but I don't usually do that. Only if I have started to feel really tired during the day. Normally once I have woken up I am dying to get up and get on the computer.

Not me! I have got a 2 year old, though! I try to make up for it a bit with a nap at the weekend. On a good night I get maybe 6-7 hours.
