The way I do it is I boil the chicken for about thirty minutes then I drain it into another bowl so I can save the juice or you can use can chicken broth then I debone the chicken and put it in a baking dish and bake for twenty minutes while that is being done I add all the ingreidents to the broth and then add the chicken back to it in chunks about bite size what you put in it is up to you some have different taste then others I hope this helps

Take a nice fat stewing hen and cover with water or put it in a slow cooker or crockpot. add an diced onion, diced celery, and sliced carrots. Add aboutsalt to taste and 1 teaspoon puoltry seasoning or just sage. Some times I add rosemary. simmer slowly until the chicken is tender and falls off the bone. remove the bones and cut the chicken into bite size pieces. add back to the broth and vegetables. Now if you like add noodles and cook until noodles are done. seasoning make the difference in a bland soup or one with flavor.

Yup yup. This is normally the way I do it. Or instead of my slow cooker I'll simmer the chicken in a pot of water all day to get the broth nice and flavourful.
I was getting kind of worried when all the responders were replying boil it for 1/2 and hour or an hour. I think to actually make a GOOD chicken soup; you've really got to let it cook away.

first you take raw chicken with bones in it, The bones are what makes theflavour, and boil it in a large pot of water with about 10 cups of water for about an hour. Then you take the chicken out and let it cool. to the boining water you add 1 chopped onion, 2 cloves of garlic, chopped, 2 cups of diced carrots, 1 cup of diced celery, and 1/2 cup of diced red peppers. you cook this jut simmering for about half an hour, then you take the meat from the bones of thechicken an chop it into bitesized pieces and add this to the broth. add about 2 cups of potatoesthat have been diced into pieces about 1 inch cubes, and 2 teaspoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper. when it starts to simmer again, add 1 cup of diced tomatoes, either from a can or fresh, and continue to simmer for about another half hour. Your soup should be ready to eat! You can add rice or macaroni instead of the potatoes if you choose.
