The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexender Dumas. He's also the one that wrote The Three Musketeers. I love that book and can read it over and over. I love the depth of revenge and how he carries out all the acts against those who betrayed him. All in the name of love. I even read it once in the native language of French. Years ago when I was studying french. Since I already knew the story it wasn't so hard, except I did have to have a French-English dictionary near by.

As a kid I loved the book, The Lonesomest Doll In The World. It was about a little princess who was given a doll that looked exactly like she did. The doll was brought out once a year on the princesses birthday and then returned to a box. Both the doll and the princess were very lonely. The gardener's daughter found a little hidden gate into the palace grounds and used her father's keys to open it. She played with her worn out dolls under a tree until one day she was discovered by the princess, who took her in to see the beautiful doll inside the palace. Anyway, the story gets more exciting as the two little girls are kidnapped, but it has a happy ending. When I became a school librarian, the book was still available although it was a new edition so I ordered it and kids still loved the story. Now, many years later, I have found several original copies, printed in 1001 and purchased them on ebay. I plan to give them to my grandchildren when they are older, even though they have already heard the story many times. The books are in good shape, but a bit fragile.

I guess that your favorite book depends on your mood at the moment because there are so many wonderful books out there. It's hard to choose just one. One of my favorite authors is Stuart Dybeck, who was born in and writes about Chicago. He's a brillian short story writer. His latest book is called "I Sailed with Magellan," and its full of stories about growing up in the "back of the yards" neighborhood of Chicago and all the characters and his brother and family life.

My favorite is Starship Troopers, by Robert Heinlein. I'm on my second copy because the first one fell apart due to overuse.

Oh gosh, where to start??? I suppose my all time favorite is "Where the Red Fern Grows" (Author's name is misplaced right now, sorry.) Followed closely by "Around the World in 80 Days" by Jules Verne, and "Phantom of the Opera" (again, can't remember author's name.) Modern day books are Harry Potter series, and the Mitford series of books by Jan Karon. I recommend these to anyone who enjoys a quick, easy, and light hearted read.
