Is there such a lack of role-models??I've just got this picture ...it was e-mailed me by a friend who found it silly and somewhat funny.Now..i am not very old myself...but still..when i was 16(oh God..i'm starting to sound like my folks already) we didn't do this kind of stuff.Smoking?yes..we did that...drinking?we did that too...whistle after girls on the street?did that too..but knives in our teeth?trying to impersonate one character from "pirates of the carrabean"??we never did that...or ever had that on our list(not to talk about the amount of pictures of 15-17 years old girls, dressed very provocative).Where are we heading at?

Yes it is the lack of parenting which happening to our teenagers, and also they are taught in school and their environment that they have to saw and hear because if we say or do anything to them they can run away. So it makes it almost impossible feel that that is just the way of the times. I was never like that, I never really went with the flow like all the others. However, things that you did when you were a kid seemed aweful and terrible to your parents,is not it?, and they were wondering the same thing. And of course the stuff that the kids are doing today seems 10 times worse to your parents than it does to you now .

When you say teen do you, mean teens as a whole. The way its written it looks like labelling and Stereotypical when you say TeenS, but not all of us are like it, iI certainly don't put a knife between my teeth. I do agree to some extent as I know that some are like that.

i think that for a lot (not everybody), there is a lack of a father figure in the household. I think a father figure provides more discipline, or at least the threat of more discipline than just a mother can. It's kind of crazy what happens out there when teens roam wild. It's probably all the hormones.

I'm not very old either, at 18 I can't say I have too much life experience. :) Personally, I think that some people don't have anything better to do... thus the picture you showed us. :)) Everybody is free to do whatever they want, in the limits of morality. If that guy thought that it was smart to pose like that, well who can stop him? It's just a matter of how we each look at things and what oppinions we develop about them. To some that picture will seem like something outrageous, some might think it's ugly, nice, stupid or funny. Some will totally disaprove while others will praise it for it's umatchable artistic and humoristic spirit. Me? Well... I'm just happy it's not my face in that picture. :))

I worry about this too. It seems the media helps kids grow up far too quickly these days. A lot of teenagers have things come to easily to them, or grow up with a welfare attitude that the world owes them something, they have little respect. Boys want to be rough, girls want to be wafer thin!

instead of asking this, u could have asked like " what is not wrong with teens " because u know like student life is golden life but many of them are just spoiling their future life...... when every thing is fulfilled by their parents like pocket money, bike, freedom throughout the day, teens lose the responsibility at that time . I think i have discussed about this atlest acceptable. Really a good discussion bye take care

I feel that that is just the way of the times. I was never like that, yet again, I never really went with the flow like all the others. I liked to use my head. :P However, things that you did when you were a kid seemed aweful and terrible to your parents, and they were wondering the same thing. And of course the stuff that the kids are doing today seems 10 times worse to your parents than it does to you. Times change, and there's not too much you can do about it except for raise your kids right and hope they grow out of silly phases.

I believe that this is a negative effect of how our children tend to express their emotions and frustrations. Unfortunately and regretfully, there are parents who are very much pre-occupied with their jobs to pursue professional fulfillments . Thus, children grew up without righteous role-models that will guide them into the value system we want for them. The fragile minds of youth can't distinguish the merit of the values and beliefs presented to them, and they will tend to adopt whatever they are exposed to. We need to influence our children as much as possible as early as possible, because once they become teenagers their peers exert more influence on them. If we end up with regrets over the time we didn't give our children, it's a pain that never goes away!!!

Yes,it seems a pretty good explanation for why are they doing it.I guess you are a parent yourself :) and realising that your children come before anything else, makes you a good parent. At least in my oppinion. Thank you for your answer. I wish you best of luck :)

I know that.We were different from our parents..Our parents were different from their parents...and the chain goes on.I don't think this is a "conflict between generations" though.Now..i really don't want to blame parents(since i am not a parent,i don't know what's their reasons for ignoring their child's behavior),but i think that parents today are more into making money than paying attention to their children.I've seen so many cases of parents who "prove" their love by buying a new car,a new cellphone,a new computer for their childre rather than just try spending more time with them. What role-model can you have when both your parents are more into business-world instead of trying to show some values at home?

Every generation says the same thing about the next generation. That's where the "kids these days ain't got no respect" thing comes from. But yeah, who knows where that knife has been? He needs a patch over his eye and a parrot on his shoulder.

:)) It is disturbing the fact that i am not that old (and i found myself thinking like my 60 years old father)..so the "generation" thing should not be a problem...or at least that's how i was lying to myself:).Thank you for posting.and PS:i have respect for "elders"...i have (and always had)respect for most of things/people around me.But that's just me :)cheers

imo, teens today have a lot role models.so,they absorb characteristics from all of them and try to combine them in a personality of their own.they try to crate their own style.parents nowadays seem to discourage them of being whatever they want,so teens feel free to do whatever they like.

It's the lack of parenting that is happening to our teenagers. Also they are taught in school that they do not have to listen because if we say or do anything to them they can run to the police. So it makes it almost impossible to instill morals on the kids that are acting out.

I know it's tough to be a parent these days. And i know it's hard to be a "cool" parent(that in order to keep your kids as close as possible)I don't even want to think about the time when i will be a parent.Seeing this kind of pictures(or even worst) make me a lot more paranoid then i was...Thank you for posting...and all my respect goes to parents who are fighting for a better world for their children.

I think I understand the point you are trying to make. Teens today, and society in general is so caught up in Hollywood, and being "somebody" or being popular, or glamorous that they are not even living their lives. Their lives consist of party after party and who wrote what on their Myspace account. It's silly and superficial and It's disturbing to me, as I wonder when will they grow up and start thinking seriously about their futures. I was a pretty well-rounded kid growing up, I didn't have the support I needed in school and i feel had my parents been there and been more proactive I could have done MUCH better in school (I did fine... I had B's I think), I never got caught up in popularity contests or really cared much about social parties or things like that, I just wasn't disciplined enough to push myself w/out any external force (my parents) to push me. I also agree that teenage girls dress inappropriately (well, even preteens nowadays). I think it's dangerous to allow your 14 year old to go out with her belly exposed and shorts cut so short she can't bend over. Parents do this, and then the child ends up raped, or pregnant or worse. Yes, those things happen to girls dressed appropriately as well, But I wouldn't take the chance and there is no reason for a 14 year old to be dressed sexy.

It's just a picture. What's wrong with it? I'm sure there are plenty of things that were done similar to this around your time you just don't have a picture of it. We are headed up as far as I can tell. We are getting more and more advanced and I think it will just go up now considering us teens are the first to grow up with internet, cell phones, video games, digital cameras, and all the other high tech stuff.

Actually we (me and my friends) did not do this kind of things. We did not want to be someone else,we wanted to find our own ways in life. And i think,so far,we did a good job.We did not rob anyone,we did not "play with knives "like this, etc. But i guess we were too busy building our own personality and trying not to be similar with others.I think it's called originality.Thank you for saying your oppinion.

i agree profetu, time has really changed very much, but i am really shocked that people take these things so casually, i think teenagers are more indisciplined now and more free, actually for them life is all about amusement, they are deeply lacking the sense of responsibility, definitely its the scientific revolution which has brought these changes, but still i think parents can play a important role in moulding their kids life

This is shocking me too, that's why i uploaded this picture. This may be "casual" for others, but maybe if i would uploaded a more shocking picture they wouldn't think like this(but then i would probably get more"you are sick!"reactions).Thank you for your answer.

I don't really understand the big deal about the picture but even though i am 16 i think that there isnt many role models in our time. So many kids at my school talk all the time about how they got "high" or "wasted" and i think its stupid.
