Did you know peanuts can cause migraines in children?

We didn't until our 5 year old started having them a couple times a month. After a little research online and carefully monitoring what he ate and when the headaches occured we came to the conclusion it must be from peanuts. He seems to have migraines after eating peanut butter or peanuts. I also learned online that foods high in nitrates can trigger a migraine... things like bacon and hot dogs. Stress and lack of sleep are also sometimes responsible. Anyway, just wanted to share something with you all!

Turkey can trigger migraines as well along with barometric pressure changes (like a storm coming in). The list of things is very long actually as to what can trigger it and what triggers them in one person might not in another. That's where it's really problmatic. You were smart to monitor the what all he was coming into contact with. If you suffer from migraines it is best to keep a log of everything you eat and go around, along with the weather for each day. That way you can find what your particular triggers are and hopefully avoid them. I know migraines are a royal pain in the rump and head. Hope he's doing better now that you found the trigger.

Keeping a log is an awesome suggestion! That's how I found out that cheese and mixed were two of my triggers! My doctor still doesn't quite believe me when I say that the sun shining too brightly causes a migraine for me, but I swear it seems that way. If I dare go out of my house on a sunny bright day without wearing sunglasses, I can count on having a migraine by day's end.

I'm the same way. I'm considered light blind. I have to be very careful when going outside without sunglasses. I actually had one eye doctor confirm that it does happen. It was nice to hear.

Chargoans.... Despite what your doctor says the same is true for me and my mother. We both are sensitive to the light and it often has caused migraines in us both. Doctors can't know everything I guess! They just think they do, lol.

How severe is your MS? I was recently put through an MRI as my neuro suspected I was developing MS, but they didn't find any leisons. I'm relieved, but still don't know what's wrong with me. Anyway, I've heard that many people with MS have frequent migraines. Sorry you have to suffer with this. Hope your meds are helping you with your MS.

I suffer from migraines too! Mine can be triggered by eating too much cheese, not sleeping or oversleeping, too much sun exposure (especially if it is really bright outside!) and eating too many nuts. I don't eat just peanuts, I eat almonds, pecans, cashews, you know the mixed nut kind? Migraines with children sometimes are misdiagnosed as other craziness. My daughter had been suffering from migraines for over a year, had been diagnosed as having allergies. Then she had an epileptic seizure one day, a grand mal. Her lips turned blue, it was the scariest thing ever! Anyway, the anti-seizure medicine prescribed to her is also used to treat migraines so she has suffered significantly fewer each year! She has only had the one seizure two years ago, and I hope she never has another one. It is heartbreaking to watch a seizure and have absolutely no control.

How scary! My son has a history of fibrial seizures, but those are caused by a spike in body temperature when the child is ill. He's had 4 trips to the ER. I'm a little nervous about any possible connection between migraines and grand mal seizures though, migraines run in my family and my brother has a seizure disorder. Guess I'll have to really watch my kids. Hope your daughter continues to do well on the meds.
