Linux (and the software under it) is very stable and secure. The deamons run a long time without restart. Very good quality for free. On a Linux desktop, the gui sometimes crashes. But that will never halt the entire system and give you a "blue screen" like Windows does. The gui is a separated part, not an integral part of the operatin system, that's the trick. Linux is free, but not cheap... It will cost you time - to set up and to administrate. More than Windows will cost you. I prefer using Linux as a server operating system and Windows as a desktop operating system.

Linux definitely rocks..........well those with a problem of user friendliness can try ELX BizDesk......it's free n allows seamless connection with windows on the same machine....... Linspire also is a good one to start....though itz not free....

linux is definately more realible than windows when you talk about security and cost.infact linux is a free source code which anyone can use free of cost.but the main point is user friendly, where windows is still few notches above linux.it will still take lot of time and hardwork for linux to improve user friendlyness.every year they are improving but microsoft is improving in much faster rate.lets see who will win the race.

Linux don't need antivirus, don't need to be defrag, It has been tested to run over a year(no shutting down or restart or whatever) without any problems. Only problem in linux, it a bit harder to install new drivers and to install software. Not much game that I know in Linux. Windows is a more friendlier Operating System but we do know what happens to windows.. When XP came, they said it is secure but we know what happened, lots of trojan, viruses attack winXP. I'm not sure about Vista maybe Microsoft learned from there mistake. In linux if you found a problem just post it in their forum and someone will figure it out. Since Linux is open source anyone can open and edit its source code unlike in windows, if you do not and they caught you , you will be find heavily for piracy
