How do you get rid of the disgusting skunk smell from your dog? I have 2 and they both got sprayed several times by a skunk and despratley need to get rid of the smell. Also they came inside and now my hous smells. We have tried febreze and lysol but you can still smell it. What can I do to get rid of the smell in the house as well?

I'm really not sure what you can do about the smell in the house....besides using airfreshner. Here is what you need to get rid of the smell on the dogs. Several large bottles of hydrogen peroxide 1 box of baking soda 1/2 cup of Dawn dishsoap Mix all this together well and soak your dogs with a sponge.Make sure they are good and wet.....let set for about 10 min.....rinse.You amy want to bath them with a regular dog shampoo after wards....but this will get rid of the smell. If the smell is mostley on your carpet.....you may try using a solution of water and vinegar and spray that.....that helps cut back on the smell some. Good luck.....I know how bad it smells....I had a dog that got sprayed as well.

This is pretty much the same thing I was going to type. Look for a recipe online that has peroxide, baking soda, and and dishsoap. I saw this on mythbusters. LOL then I had to actually do it on my dog. Tomato juice doesn't really work. It just makes your dog smell like tomatoes. The reason that the above mixture works is that it works kind of like that oxy-clean cleaning stuff. The bubbles of the peroxide reacting with the baking soda and soap do some chemical reaction that gets rid of the smell. On mythbusters, they used it all over the place (the floor, the walls, themselves, etc...) I would do a test patch before using it on anything though, just to make sure. Good luck!

Vets actually carry a special shampoo created just for the skunk sprays. While I'm sure by this time (4 weeks after your post) you've already gotten rid of the scent on the dogs.. you might want to consider keeping a bottle around! LOL

I've heard you need to bath them in heavy amounts of tomatoe juice. Sometime this works and sometimes it does not. Check you vet or pet store if this if needed.

Then I would check with your vet or a pet store. They should be a ble to give you the best solution. Either that or just live with it. You could try the tomatoe juice bath again. It might take a few baths to really get rid of it.

Get a bottle of pure lemon juice, add some salt, soak that baby down. It works, I learned this from a waitress, she told me lemon juiceand salt would cut the smell of onions on your hands also.....she was right. Don't forget to protect the baby's eyes.
