Giving Money to Kids

I used to get pocket money from my parents when i entered teenage years. I see today parents giving money to their kids on daily or weekly basis to spend at school. Do you think it is good to give them money or just buy them things they need? What is the right age to start giving them money to carry with them? Should they be given rights to buy whatever they like with the money which is theirs, once we have given them?

My kids get an allowance that is equal to their age (so my son gets $13 a week and my daughter gets $11 until her bday then it'll go up to 12)...BUT if they want something, they have to save their money in order to get it...My husband and I dont believe in just buying them stuff whenever they want...I think thats silly when they are getting an allowance..you want it, YOU pay for it..

Okay that seems a good way to raise them as responsible ppl. They learn to save and spend wisely.

Hi Thanks for commenting on my discussion. And coming to ur topic, in my childhood, I never use to get any pocket money. And as I grew up, joined my college I got money only to pay my college fee etc.
But personally I feel we should give some money to children but ask them to save it. Give them target like to buy a cycle with his saved money.

There are quite different in our country ,sb's kids can buy what they want with plastic but at the same some kids at the same age can't be sufficed about the material which study needed and even must leave school to earn money for their family ,the pocket money is one thing they could't miss !
In my family ,my parents and my uncle are always content my younger sister and me about the atudying material ,we are luchy and always thanks about the giving . Of course we seldom bad use our pocket money especially my sister .

yes it also depends on culture of certain country and how they raise kids. But also its important that when we give kids money, they shud be taught to use it wisely.
