I don't understand why we are not actively pursueing this form of energy. I live in Upstate New York and we have some here. They work wonderful. But, when a company wanted to expand them over some of the remote area here the towns folks started to fight it. I don't find the site of them ofensive nor do I find them noisy and that is what they were arguing. I would love to have one in my backyard if it ment not being so dependant on the electic company wouldn't you?

Though being the most conventional source of energy, wind is not always available. A power plant using wind mills to generate food requires very large working area which is not possible to provide everywhere. Hence even though being most efficient,eco-friendly and convinient source of energy it is less preffered

Where I live and where the windmills are going up there is a lot of wind throughout the year so that is not much of a problem. I just don't understand why we don't use it more. Thank you for responding.

I love windmills. I think they are so pretty and wonderful when wind is available. I agree that we sould be using windmills more for sources of energy. So what if they are not useable 100 per cent of the time. We could use them when the wind is present and have another source available when the wind is not present. Althought I am finding that the wind is getting to be stronger in the past couple of years here in West Virginia, Are you finding that to be true in New York also?

Yes, that is what I mean. Yes it is worse. My husband grew up here and he says he can not beleive the difference. He hates the wind. As long as it is not so bad and it is sunny I don't mind.

My husband is from Holland and wonders the same thing. We have windmills atop a mountain in a nearby town, and the town pays so little for their energy costs. It is a clean and efficient way to produce energy. Why we don't utilize this method is beyond me. Many feel they are eyesores. Maybe that is the number one reason for not building them.

Yes, I think you are right about how people feel. It doen't make sense when you look at the grey smog filled sky over all our major cities though. thank you for your comment

to me it is simple, to put in a new system involves set up costs, no one in the business of making money will spend if they dont have to, they would rather continue destroying the planet largely because they lack the wherewithall to think behond their own lifetime blessed be

I know that it is costly but I would be willing to invest in it. I plan to check this out further too. Thank you for your comment

Well, depending on the design, the windmills can look tacky. But for the most part, they don't. About two miles from my apartment, a company runs its electricity through a series of windmills built behind them. You remember that lyric, "Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plane?" Yes, that's Oklahoma. And we could certainly utilize them. It's just so unaffordable, and if you could afford one, there are city zoning laws you'd have to pass. But what a great way to be environmentally friendly and frugal with money. I think they pay for themselves over a period of about four years, in an average family setting.
