How do I earn Money from the Internet??

The report said that the internet took in over $1 billion last year. How does the average person tap into this resource for making money? There must be a way to learn the system without dishing out $$$'s. I would love to be able to learn how. It is my desire to have this resource working for me so I can be kind to the poor.
