I agree. In fact, movies should not even have sound mixing or makeup. Every movie should be able to be made with two actors and a chair, communicating through hand signals and vague barking noises.

Tell that to that people whose whole life is dedicated to making that part of the movies watchable for you. Have you every seen a movie before the sound mixer gets a hold of it? Now that's boring! How would you like to watch a movie that has no makeup artist attached to it? I don't think you'd like how it looked.
These awards are for the movie industry. They happen to make alot of revenue for other businesses by being aired on television. If you don't like what they're showing turn it off. There are still a number of folks who find sound, makeup and set design interesting.

MKpack, you found only that part of the show boring? I found the whole thing boring. How boring? I decided that doing my taxes early would be more fun, so, I worked on that!

I agree those awards are dumb. I also don't like watching all the other extra performaces, such as music or old time productions and looking at back at those actors or actresses that past away through out the year. It's not like the media doesn't report those happenings. I always think the host talks to much in between as well.

I'm actually surprised that they even showed that part on TV. A lot of award shows will do the unimportant awards offscreen so people don't lose interest. I can't imagine sitting there in the audience all night! Even if I were up for an award, I'd be like...let's get on with this already. I'm surprised no one falls asleep at the Oscars since they take forever.
I didn't watch the show last night. I was busy posting here.

Maybe that's why you're home watching television or on your computer and not in the movie industry. I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in watching a movie that didn't have any of those "unimportant" people attached to it. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes of a movie and it is not "unimportant".
