I always feel lonely when I'm not with my girlfriend, my constant companion... or whenever I'm alone at home. I won't go as far as calling it depression but I just can't explain the feeling that something is missing... or not right.

In your case, I wouldn´t resort to medications. It´s normal to feel a bit blue when you aren´t with a loved one, I think. For me, in this sort of situation, what helps is keeping my mind busy. Try word puzzles, watching a movie with a complicated plot, taking an online course, etc. Anything to keep you from thinking about being sad.

sounds more like you are just missing whoever you're not with. depression is much more than just being lonely. stay active, find things that interest you, and enjoy your time to yourself to do things YOU want to do--hobbies, music, read, etc. and you can feel lonely even surrounded by people if you feel you don't fit in or are worthy of their attention, please don't confuse the two.

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.
