why do people drink and drive?

i posted in another discussion that one of my sister's best friends was killed on saturday. i learned today that he was killed by a drunk driver, yet the drunk driver wasn't hurt at all. he was arrested on the spot, but i wonder what kind of punishment he will get. he may have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life, but that's nothing compared to the life he took and the people he hurt. my sister's friend was such a great guy, full of life...and this stupid driver had to end it because he felt like drinking and driving.
