How will the new proposed two cent raise on U.S. Stamps affect you?
It was announced today that postage may go up again in sixty days. This would make a first class stamp 41 cents.
Also announced was the possibility of a "Lifetime Stamp". In other words you could purchase a stamp at the current first class rate and that stamp would be good for first class for life and future price hikes would not effect that stamp.
Will this increase affect you or your business?

I think it has been less than a year. I can not keep up with it any more. Sounds like they mean to keep up regular increases since they are wanting to offer the "Lifetime" stamp. Now how many people want to horde up a bunch of "Lifetime Stamps"?

Hello Patswords.....
An additional two cents per mailing......not a lot when you think about it. In most other countries the cost of sending a letter is 2 or 3 times higher than 41 cents. One of the main reasons for price hikes for the USPS is the cost of gasoline. How many vehicles times how many miles per day ???? That's a lotta gas.
The lifetime stamp really bothers me if, it is the only stamp they're going to issue. I've been a stamp and postal history collector a little over 48 years. I cannot imagine a more monotonous collection. However, it has been in use in Great Britain for several years and seems to be efective at reducing costs. It is also not the only stamp being issued so collectors have accepted it without too much complaining.

Thanks Tom for your enlighting response. I had not given the proper consideration to the effect of gas prices on the cost of stamps. It really makes sense.

Although I don't live in the USA, I do buy a lot of goods on ebay so the price rise will affect me. It seems that a lot of countries are raising prices, UK have, Ireland are, obviously there has to be a need to inflate prices periodically to keep up with inflation however I believe the price rises are only justified if the actual delivery service is good and on time. In the UK they've done away with 2nd deliveries, the morning delivery usually doesn't turn up before 11am so you don't get to check your mail until you get home in the evening. I've sold a few things to the USA and I know their delivery is often incredibly slow.

You are so right. They seem to be trying to force us to eventually have only Priority and Express Mail here in the U.S. However, I have found that Priority doesn't usualy go any faster than first class. As for two deliveries a day we haven't had that for many years. We do not receive our one delivery until around 4:30 pm each day.
