This young fellow calls and say I am going to tell you all about the newest latest and greatest cell phone. me, I am not interested, He How can you not be interested in the very best cell phone and I can sell it to you at a good price. Me I am not interested. He I do not understand. me I do not own a cell phone. he I have never heard of any one not having a cell phone, I wouldn't feel safe with out mine. me, not a problem for me. He what about when you are out driving. me I do not own a car or drive, he, what would you do if you saw an accident how would you call 911. me I would grab the next passing person and tell them to. He Well what if you were at home and you hurt your self what would you do . I would pick up the phone I am talking to you on and use it, he, Just a moment I have to talk to my supervisor. 30 seconds later, Thank you so very much for talking to me good bye. I won I won dance of joy.

I always try to be polite but firm in my refusal of their product or service. But sometimes they just dont listen. I have found handing the phone to my 4 year old nephew who hasnt grasped the concept of taking a breath between sentences and loves to hear his own voice. Since I have done that a few times, I have noticed a dramatic decrease in the number of repeat calls from the same company. :)

To be fair to the telemarketer, they generally have someone watching over them while they're on these calls, and their supervisor tells them that they HAVE to make rebuttals. When I worked for Sears, we had to have the person on the phone say no three times before we could hang up. Trust me, no telemarketer WANTS to keep you on the line after you've told them you're not interested, but they have to. So to those people who think it's fun to abuse telemarketers...c'mon, it's a crappy job that pays poorly, and the last thing they want to be doing is bothering you after you tell them no. Be polite, ask them to remove you from their call list, and hang up.

I am with you my daughter did this for a week and said never again, she didn't mind the hangups but to be called every name in the book and sworn at is just not right, I am not interested is sufficient and in my case I do try to get them to give up on their own, but I do it nicely. If I do not have time to listen I just say sorry not interested and hang up. no need to get nasty, they are only doing their job.

one more time I am not rude if I can help it but there are some very aggressive telemarketers and they, do not just give up and go away. I just make it so that they do not bother with me it is to much trouble,

I'm glad you think so. I know it's no fun having to deal with telemarketers, but so many people forget that most of the time the people calling are just young people trying to make some money. I doubt anyone gets into telemarketing thinking it'll be their lifelong career. No one really WANTS to do it. I was pretty good at it and received a lot of bonuses for signing people up to have their ducts inspected for Sears. But I tell you, the number of times somebody would go off on me and start calling me names and just being extremely rude....there were nights I went home in tears. It's just better to ask to be taken off the call list, or even to politely say "no thank you" and hang up.

I have a similar story. Cutting to the good part him..Do you like sports? me..No him..You're not into basketball or football? me..Oh my goodness, when did those become sports? Wow that totally changes my anser. I would have never thought of those as sports when I said NO. Wow thanks for giving me that bit of information. him..Umm Ok then next question. He really was an idiot I thought. I just love getting calls from them as long as it's after 7PM. that's when I have free minutes and can waste their time.

Good for you. Telemarketers are a pet peeve of mine. I realize they are just doing their job, but this is a free country and I choose not to be disturbed by every company out their that wants to sell me something. I have a phone and a computer and I can email or call or write or go to thier stores IF I want something from their company. It is just such an imposition for them to constantly keep calling us. They call my mom and she is not in the best of health, they call her everyday and it is such an effort for her to hear the phone and then rush to answer it thinking it's one of her kids or grandkids needing her, then to find it is a telemarketer. Makes her blood pressure shoot way up there.

I know its hard for them but its also very annoying for us if we are constantl getting calls. Ive been on both sides and though it hurts when people are rude, sometimes we just dont have the time or the energy to say no a million times. If you are not interested you arent interested. I generally say not interested and hang up. Im not trying to be rude, infact thats the best way I can handle it without being rude. At other times ofcourse if im in an annoying mood myself I will pretend I cannot understand English or ask really annoying questions. Someone gave me another great idea of just sitting there quietly until the telemarketer gets fed up and puts the phone down. Ill try that next time.

I think you misunderstand me. I wasn't arguing with you or saying that you do be rude to telemarketers. I apologize. I was simply saying that I'm glad that you're not rude and reinforcing my point, mainly for anyone else who reads this.

that is right you hurt the telemarketer, but did nothing to the company. I was a telemarketer because I had to pay the bills and feed my family. I couldn't find any other work. It is a thankless job, full of stress that made me so sick I cannot work at all now, and guess what, the company is up and running and making millions of dollars.

Thank you, you have hit the nail on the head, I do not wish to disrespect the telemarketers, they are only doing their job, I am sorry that you have suffered so, I too had to work at jobs that the pay was menial to support my family, and now I get a menial pension check, but I am grateful that I do get a check.

LOL Yep, you won but there will be more to call so dont get too excited yet. LOL I hate to talk to telemarketers. They usually dont give you a chance to get a work in. They sure can talk fast. The Do Not Call List does not work either. WE still get called. Not as much but they still call.

I believe that some where in the depths of this computer there is such a list. but I feel sorry for them. and If they do not stop I just sit the phone down and let them go on and on, but you have to admit that they are treated with disrespect and sworn at , I will not do that but I won't buy from them. I take it as a personal challenge to defeat them at their own game. besides if I have the time I love to chat on the phone. so I always ask what the weather is like how many kids they have. a lot of garbage. but it fills a need for me

I actually feel sorry for telemarketers, I've had friends that did it to make money to pay university tuition. Once in a while I'll get one who I can tell is having a really bad day, and I just tell them "No offense to you, I understand this is your job, but I'm just not interested. Try to have a good day!" I actually had one girl chat with me for a bit, she had had so many people yell at her I'm glad I was able to cheer her up a bit, it's really not fair to take it out on the caller.

I live in an area where a majority of the jobs are telemarketing jobs. Being there and doing that was one of the worst things...ever. I thought I'd have a nervous breakdown or something. I like how you handled the call though because you told him why you didn't need it, he got out his rebuttals although I don't see where he got his particular rebuttals. That's awful if all that was scripted. Another thing, it's funny how he had to go to his supervisor.
