Road cleaning

Heres the story the other day we had an ice storm. My little sister had to work and ended up in an accident. She is okay. She slid on ice because a main road was not cleaned or salted. That night we heard about another teen who died in an accedent less then 5 miles from where my sister had hers.
It was a sunday.
I live in the middle of nowhere, farmland as far as you can see!
They will not clean the roads on sunday because they have to pay the drivers time and a half.
So here is my question, what do you think about this, should they have to go out anyway?? I have heard the parents of the teen are thinking of sueing the county. What would you do?

I think any company that employs a child needs to put thier safety first if that means closing a business due to weather so be it
Now where I leave we usually only have a couple of inches of snow and a couple of good freezes a year so when we have crazy winter weather like we have had this year our area shuts down completely. Our road crews work 24/7 when this happens

unfortunatly they dont' have to close unless there is a warning put out that you can't drive at all. The weather was fine when she left for work, but on the way home it was really bad.
I think our road crews dont' work because we live in farmland and they want there weekends. It's very rare that they actually do anything on the weekends. I think it's in there contract.

That is a little odd you live in a place where you get cold weather all the time you would think the would have road crews working 24/7. I'm with that girls parents I'd be for sueing.
On that note we have had more snow this winter than in the last few winters combined. It's been snowing and raining here for the last few days. Today it's actually sticking. So look out everytime we get hit with snow and freezing temps everyone else the rest of the U.S. seems to get waylaid. So look out another system on it's way towards you.

We live in Illinois, out in the boondocks as well, so-to-speak. We have the same problem. There are many people who have started suits against the county because for some reason they can't bother to send out the trucks when needed and people are getting into accidents and stuck on the side of roads.
My husband couldn't go to work nite before because we had such a bad ice storm and the trucks didn't bother to show to clear roads enough for people to get to work. It's a nightmare..!

my mother was really upset, if you think about it who has to drive the most on weekends? teens going to work, most places will not let them call in.
In my sisters case the weather was fine when she went to work, when she came back it was ice, and our area was not under a warning and it didn't show there was anything out there on the news... but we were looking at it!

I can understand that; I'm glad your sister didn't get hurt. We have the same problem, where we're looking at it and yet there is no warning and you don't even see the 'black ice' on the roads until it's too late. It's a crap-shoot here and we just have to be careful with or without warnings, I guess...

The government and people should take action on that. If the government could not do it then it's time for the people to provide solution. Talk to your community. It's for their welfare also. Don't wait for another accident to happen before doing any action. You should initiate on that. Act as a leader. ;)
Pls have time to read my posts as well. Thanks a lot! ??

The ice storm we had here in NE Cleveland on Sunday was pretty bad in the morning. So me and the boyfriend stayed in till about noon or so when we had seen that the ice had melted off the truck. I think Cleveland is pretty good at getting out anymore and salting the roads early. Granted the ice storm did knock out the power all day Sunday so we had to hang out at his sisters house all day.
I am sure the parents wont get anything for sueing the county because i am sure just like here in Cleveland they warned not to go out and if you have to .. to be careful

I live in michigan, so we got some of that storm.
There were no warnings out for our area on sunday... when we checked our local radar nothing was near us, but there was freezing rain comming down all day. The people who decided when the trucks go out live in the area, and they knew what was going on and did nothing.
