why do you hide your identity?

i think most people hide there identity as they dont want everybody all over the world to know who they are. most people might start to tell everyone a bit more about themselves after a few months of being here as then they would feel a bit more safer in doing so

I agree that some people use a nickname to protect themselves from unwanted attention - like a serial killer, a stalker or simply someone who wants to steal your identity. Someone can actually get a lot of information about yourself through your discussions - eg, what you like, where you go, what you usually do and your hobbies. I guess most people use a nickname as a form of protection to guard themselves against the unknown. Though I use my real name in MyLot, its a pretty common name - so I don't think anyone can figure out who I am from here.

This site doesn't have a very "personal" atmosphere. To feel safer I prefer to use a screen name. On other more personal sites I will use my real name.

I dont think any one of the mylot users have hide their identity. I dont think so. YOu mean only by looking at the User Name? I have clearly used my name in user. My name is shila, so i used as user name. I havenot hide my identity plus i did not do any thing wrong.

i don't agree with you! hiding your identity or not is your rights,so if you like it,you do it.if you don't like it,you don't,it's up to you!

there are a lot of internet "weirdos" out there that purposely try to harm others. by not sharing your identity, you are shielded from some of that.
