I have a gay friend who is also christian. He belives stronly in God, almost moreso than any straight christian I've met. Even though many christians tout that being gay is against their god's will, the obvious truth is to me that if there is indeed a god in the christian sense, then it's his will that these people be gay. That's how my friend sees it too. He keeps a close relationship with his god and knows in his heart that he was born the way he was because his god willed it to be so.
And I applaud him. If he believes in an omnipotent being of pure love who created him, and he was created to feel true love for another man, then who the hell are we to tell him it's wrong?
As for the seperation of church and state, that's definately a hairy subject. Where should we draw the line? Obviously, forced prayer is a no-no in schools. But that's just christian prayer.
You can also go to the other extreme. Shall we ban religious people from working government jobs? Can the president or our governors only be allowed to be aethiests? Both extremes are just silly.
The only injustice you can do to God, in my opinion, is to deny who you truely are. If being married gives them a feeling of security, and perhaps cements their love, then by all means go ahead. And as long as we're encouraging and rewarding heterosexual marriage, why not do the same for gay marrige? It only makes sense to me.
