I would have to say, without a doubt, Queen is the greatest band to have ever graced the Earth. It's not even an arguable point, it's universal law! ;) Freddie Mercury was the most charismatic singer to have ever come along and possessed quite possible the strongest, most versatile and most beautiful singing voice ever. Brian May is one of, if not THE, best technical pop/rock guitarist. The thing that made Queen the greatest was the unity the band held, they worked like a well-oiled cog. They were constantly evolving through the times and tried their hand at EVERY type of music there is and did them all well. And, most importantly, they never took themselves TOO seriously. They made catchy, not-too-serious pop/rock songs that people of every culture and age could easily hook onto and enjoy without having to pick the song apart and analyze it. I think that is why the U.S. is the only market that Queen did not take by storm, because we Americans tend to take our music WAY too seriously, instead of just having fun with it and enjoying them for what they are. Also, Queen really disliked doing direct interpretations in their music videos. They liked to keep their songs semi-vague s that everyone would form their own imaginative interpretation in their heads. They didn't want to ruin these images that people developed with their songs by translating them directly in video form.

I must say Jardin, you have very good taste if you think Slipknot is the best band of all time! They're my fav's as well... I never used to like their genre of music but they have an infinate sense on how to ensure fans can translate their music and lyrics into something that resonates within each individual... if that makes sense at all!
