I don't know what kind of cake you enjoy. So, I am going to compremise here. I'm not giving you a receipe from scratch, and I'm not telling you to get a mix. So, go to the store, and get a ready made pound cake. Then take it, and cut slices though the cake, like a loaf of bread. Then spread each slice with your favorite thing you like. (cream, frost, jam, glazed fruit, etc.) Push the slices back together to form a loaf again. Then frost the whole outside with your favorite frosting. That is easy, and you will get exactly what you enjoy.

Simplest Cake I have ever made was a Mincemeat Cake. I make it all the time now and before ever making it, I hated mincemeat. Now, I will eat this cake any chance I can get.
Mincemeat Cake
1/2 c butter
1 c white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 c buttermilk
2 c all-purpose flour
1 (9oz) package condensed mincemeat, crumbled
Preheat oven to 300F (150C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
Cream butter in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs one at a time, beating mixute well after each addition. Dissolve baking soda into buttermilk (use a large bowl as it gets really foamy) stirring well. Mix flour into creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending wtih flour. Mix well after each addition. Stir in crumbled mincemeat. Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake 45-50 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes. Turn out of pan onto a wire rack. Allow to cool completely. Frost as desired.
You can also bake this cake in two 8 or 9 inch rounds and make it into a layer cake. I always use a bundt pan and powdered sugar drizzle.

I think I'm a rare breed. I cannot have my cake and ice cream on the same plate. I would prefer to have them on two separate plates although I don't know in which order I would like to eat them. If they were served together at somebody else house I would probably make the most of it and try to eat it or maybe I would ask for just one or the other if they didn't mind. If it's already served that way at a party, I wont have any. Everyone knows I don't like this and I can usually get a separate plate for each. I don't like the cake to get soggy and I can't stand crumbs in my ice cream.
