Hi there.
I have this situation happened to me this evening. My boss wanted to borrow my car for a while as he's car parked in the next block away. I give it out to him but in a VERY heavy hearted. I am a bit depressed now as i don't let anyone drive my car. If they really need it, i will drive it to their destination.
Am i too obsess about my car?
Is my action by letting him borrow my car is okay?
What would you do in my shoe?

Love that car, so cute!
If you ever get into that situation again, here is what you say. I am sorry but my insurance will not allow me to let anyone drive the car but me. I am sure that if anything happened, you wouldn't want to pay for the damages.
I let my friend drive my Mercedes, and she slammed into the back of a pickup truck and did $14,000 worth of damage. Because I allowed her to drive my car, (she had my permission), I was responsible for all the damages. Her insurance did not pay any of it. If she had taken it without my knowledge, she would have been responsible. Stupid I know, but very true.
Don't let anyone drive your car unless you are prepared to pay if they have an accident.

I think i would have done just like you...
yeah..you did the right thing..even if he wasn't your boss but a relative you should have done the same thing...
but i think you are a little obsessed of your new car..but that's natural...(if you bought a mini..as in the photo...i love it..i think it is the best car..)

No,I would not let my boss or anyone else drive my new car. I would offer to take the person whee they needed to go. But I would not let them drive the vehicle. Not with the many crazy drivers that live around here. Many days I go for a drive and wonder if I will make it home without ended in a wreck.

I'm sorry, I was too annoyed by your boss's attitude that I forgot to answer your question. So, if I were in your place, maybe I could have told him/her that I have a plan to go out like malling or something else but I can drive him/her instead and drop him where he wants to go.

I wouldn't let any one borrow my car new or old. They aren't insured to drive it. You would end up oweing alot of money if he had an accident and you would be out your car.

I never thought giving out something you appriciated can cause a bad relationship with reatives and friend. Come to think about it, it's true. It begin with lending then come a bit hatered and late payment and then the break up as the payment if way too late.. Argh.. that's serious

i think you should allow him because he is your boss.
you are not obssessed with your car but because it is new, you just feel excited and protective of it, and that is natural.
good day

look lending or not lending is entirely a personal opinion issue. If i am not very obsessive about my things then i can lend it and if i am obsessive then be it a new car or an old one if someone borrows it then it will be on our mind till we dont get it back in good shape. if even someone borrows an old car and returns it with a brand new dent or scratch, one would feel the same pain. if i were in your place i would not lend my car new or old to any one.

I also don't care to lend my car. Your boss put you in a bad position because he could make you suffer if you had said no. If he had a history of bad driving, or having "martini" lunches then I would have said no but I'm going in that direction I'll be glad to give you a lift.

Your boss probably shouldn't have asked really. It was improper to do so. I mean if you guys are friends outside of work I would say well no big deal if you've done that sort of thing before, but if you don't lend your car to anyone then there should be no reason for you to lend it to him. I agree with the others in this thread offer alternatives such as giving him a lift.

Your boss should nto be asking to borrow your car but since he did i would just tell him that nobody drives your car but you and that it is a quirk of yours. If his car is only a block away then he shoudl walk and get his.
no you are not obsessed about it a car is a huge investment adn resonsiblity.
I would say no adn adn explain why to him.

I understand how you feel. Sometimes its really hard to allow it but as long as your car is returned to you without a scratch. Next time think of a valid excuse not to let him borrow it again if you really dont want to. Sometimes being very easy is an advantage specially if you have made a favor to your boss. He will remember your kindness.

If I were in your shoe I would not borrow my car to my boss. I don't think it would hurt boss feeling towards me either. Don't think that he will fire you or promote you to higher position just because of your refusal towards him. You would've refuse him because you have the right for your car. I would have take him to his destination, no problem at all.
Think of this way, if you let him borrow the car only just for short time then what happen if there's accident? Of course he would pay for the damages but you would not love your car the way as you love before because it's been crashed.
Next time don't let anyone drive your car.

i wouldnt let him! but then again, maybe he will fire you or something if you dont, but hopefully he's not that big of a jerk! i dont like anyone driving my car, even my parents! well, now i dont have a car anymore but when i did, i was very protective of it. it was my lil baby..the only thing i could really call my own.

I feel that, you must you must give your car if your boss borrow it from you. After all he is your boss. So there is no harm in that. Your boss is having the confidence that, if he borrow your car, you will not deny it. That is the reason he asked you.

I would have told him no, or offered to go get his car for him or something. BUt hes probably NOT insured to drive your car and I would have told him just that.
His car was parked a block away? That's a stupid excuse, he could have gone and got his own car. I think he just wanted to drive your new car.
