When they branded Juliet with the star shape, the first thing that came to my mind was the holocaust. If you've been branded will you not make it off the island alive? Do the Others actually fear Jack and Sawyer at his point? Curious to see your opinion.

The cross symbol they branded Juliet with is strikingly similar to the cross used by the Church of Scientology. There's a great comparison picture at thetailsection.com, but be careful when you scroll down, as it's a spoiler site.

Thanks for the reply. I really know nothing about scientology. Either way they are branding people for power.

i think they think (lol) they are more better than the flight 805 mmembers and they don't are a threat for the others. but eventually (i think) will be a real threat for the others...sawyer,the fat guy, the prediction guy(he will have a very important play) and the other members will finally beat the others.... i hope so

I hope you are right about Hurley and sawyer making it. I don't think Desmond will(the prediction guy). I think Desmond will go mad.

Hmm, I didn't see it that way. The holocaust victims had to where the star of David on their outer clothes to show they were a Jew. Juliet's mark is on her back under her clothes. So looking at her you would not know she was marked.
I thought of it more as a punishment. I'm sure it didn't feel good getting that mark.
I think they fear Jack because he is 'living' amongst them now and seems to be ver good at manipulating Ben. I don't think they really care about Sawyer.
