Recently i learnt from a TV program, that new born babies can breathe underwater after they are born, for a few days, moreover they can also swim during this period. This they claim is due to the fact that while the baby is in its mother's womb, the conditions inside the womb are much similar to the one underwater! Do you think its true? Could you share some knowledge about this with me?

Well they can't breathe underwater - no one can. They can hold their breathe though for a time and they can swim underwater! There was a time in the U.S. where some doctors believed it was best to give birth in water - making the transition for the newborn much easier. I don't know that they ever proved it - but I know for a time there was a few people who tried it.
