i live in Uk, and from today the government has made the law that , if any one caught using mobile phones in any means, will be fined 60£ and a 3 point on the driving license.
Is it fair enough at govenments part, why do we keep mobile, ofcourse for getting the important and urgent calls.
No mater where we are, but our people can reach us through mobile, and by switching of the mobile if i m on a long drive, how do people will reach me ????
Is such a strict rule fair ,,Fine is OK,but it shud be imposed when an accident is caused, and why 3 points on license,,,,,,,,,
License is achieved by driving skills, and do switching of a mobile on or keeping it on while driving is a part of driving skills ?????
I diagree....................huh!!!

Personally, I think it's a good idea and I wish the US would adopt such practices. While out on the road I see so many people having near miss accidents because their focus is on their cel phone (dialing, whatever) and not on their driving. There's tons of accidents from this every day! When you're driving, you're supposed to be driving not dialing, or driving with only one hand on the wheel. Sure, you can drive with one hand on the wheel...on a straightaway, but when you're turning a corner, or negotiating a curve, both hands are usually necessary to truly control the wheel. If giving points on a license is the only way to control this, then more power to them, at least they're trying to look out for our safety. If talking on a cel is necessary for business, then keep an ear bud in so that you'll have both hands free, or keep it on speaker phone. The newer cars are coming out with this technology built right into the steering wheel, which will probably help a lot in reducing accidents.

It seems fair to me. It can be dangerous to drive while using a cell phone. I'm in the U.S. and several cities and states have laws against using cell phones while driving. Some just have laws that you can only use hands-free while driving, but even that can be a distraction.
I dunno. I've been to the UK and the way people drive over there...well, it's very different from the U.S. and I don't think I could ever drive over there if I were visiting or if I lived there. I'd be too scared, and to add people talking on cell phones to that kind of driving would make me afraid to go out on the street at all. Not to say that there aren't equally scary drivers in the U.S., though.

I consider it to be very fair because the use of mobile phones while driving constitutes a serious distraction and endangers many people. As for the points on the licence, this is a deterrent and fully understandable. You may consider that it has nothing to do with driving skills, but driving irresponsibly justifies the act. It is not sufficient to prove your driving ability if you are not going to drive responsibly.

Talking on a cell phone can inhibit your driving ability as much as being drunk can. Especially while you are dialing or hanging up the phone. It seems perfectly natural to me that laws would be made against it. Here, people are fighting against having these laws enacted though, because they are so used to using the phones while driving. Only a few places have been able to get laws passed, and most of those only prohibit teens from using the phones orr mandate that drivers must use hands-free devices while talking.
Personally, I don't answer the phone unless I am stopped, and I don't make calls from my car on a regular basis. My only exception is if I am on a long trip. Then I set up the earpeice ahead of time so I can just slip it in my ear and push one button if I need to take/place a call.

It's dangerous to drive and talk on the phone, you cannot do both without detracting from your skills as a driver. Pull in to the side of the road, park and then check if there are any messages for you if there are then return the calls if not continue on your journey. If you caused an accident because you just couldn't wait and had to use the phone while driving you would be gutted, not because of the points but because you may have killed someone.

Well HumsafarMandeep it looks like everyone agrees that the points taken away for driving while on a cell phone is fair. I agree with them. What do you think people did to reach each other before cell phones. They called your work place or your home. Besides it wouldbe nice to go somewhere nad not have some one calling you every minuate. You will not miss out on ant thing.

Apparently more fatal accidents are caused just after people hang up on their mobiles. Their minds are still on the phone call and not on the road. I can definitely see why the government is doing this and I think it's a very good idea, they only want to make the streets safer for everyone.
It's a shame that you don't think safety comes first.

I think there is enough distractions out there that the mobile should be off It should be a law in every country there is nothing worse than following some one who is talking on the phone and not doing the speed limit and weaving all over the road.
Besides what is more urgent or important than call you are about to take or the object you are going to hit??
