I do freelance writing for Associated Content, suite101 and Helium. AC pays once and you get $3 - $50 for a 400-800 word article. suite101 pays over time based on page visits to your articles. The pay is much less but it is residual so in time you can build up a steady income. Helium is similar to suite101, a residual income.
Check out these sites and most importantly, write every day. Write about a wide variety of subjects to practice your skills and to discover what you enjoy writing about the most. Best of luck.

Helium is legitimate but you have to submit a lot of articles and do a lot of rating in order to benefit. Even then the money isn't great. Personally, I like Helium because of the competition and because the articles are only 200-300 words generally. I look at it more as writing practice and fun than a money maker.

Do you get money for rating? It doesn't say anywhere that you do. I've rated quite a few articles and I don't seem to have received compensation for it. Where would it show up?

I use Constant Content to write for, because Associated Content offers such low amounts for the work you'd be putting into the articles.
At least at Constant Content, you get to price the articles yourself, so you know that you are being paid fairly. Though because of this, it takes longer for the articles to find a buyer, but if you are in it for the long run, it can be much more profitable.
Especially considering people get super excited when Associated Content offers them $20 for there article, when I've been paid $150 for an article more than once from Constant Content.
Anyway, if you want to check it out, here's the link:

If you have any questions, just let me know. By the way, constant content is also open to international members, while associated content is only open to the US.

yep, you can reclaim it any time, so long as it hasn't sold. For me though, I just leave them all up there, because I've had many that sell months after I wrote them. It's seems that half I write sell fairly soon, while the other ones take a while to sell, but since I have a bunch up there, they still manage to sell pretty regularly.

I write for Shvoong : www.shvoong.com/aff-CC0B
A great site for earning residual income - just publish as many articles as you can and then you might like to post their links in related forums (even in myLot...).
The best thing - they have an affiliate program.
Good luck!

There are a lot of resources for freelance writers out there, but a good place to get started is this website:

If you really think you are good at writing, and you want to get work, you can sign up for free at: http://www.getafreelancer.com/affiliates/badpenny
There are several article writing positions open each day, and it is pretty easy work. You have to bid for each project, but I won 2 separate contracts my first day, and had money in my PayPal account for one, and my bank account for another in a couple of days.
To get practice, all you have to do is keep being active on Mylot, and other similar sites, and just remember all those writing rules you learned in grammar school.

I am also planning to get into writing, which is one of the best way to earn good money here at the internet. I know of one site which is not listed here. Please give me a pm so that I could give the link to you.
I have added you as a friend, please accept it.
Thanks a lot, my friend.
