Al Gore won an Oscar for his documentary on the global warming... Do you feel he won rightly, or do you think this is an Oscar for a "hot issue" (literally so...lol)? Which brings us to the next question: how political orientated is the Academy jury?

Between that and Fahrenheit 9/11, I guess you don't need to be factually accurate to get best documentary.

No, documentaries are there to educate us... in a interesting manner, of course. Sometimes they are a 100 percent true to the fact, sometimes a little less accurate and sometimes 'what if'-like...

Of course I think Al Gore made that movie for political reasons, but it does bring a huge issue to everyone's attention, an issue that is being GROSSLY ignored by the current administration. Gore has always been known for being environmentally friendly. I think he most definitly rightly won, but I am sure the academy forsaw what winning an oscar would do for the documentary. I think when it won for best song, that was going a bit far, and with all of the comments made about how inspiring Gore was it was obvious it was for publicity and policital reasons. However I don't feel any of that takes away from the message of "An Inconvenient Truth". Personally I think a lot of people are pissed that some of the dems are getting smart enough to market themselves other than Washington--Hollywood has a right to their opinion too, and face it the younger generation (the larger amount of potential voters) would listen to a Hollywood role model before an old senator they've never heard of.

I think he won rightly. I didn't see the other documentaries but I loved the one he made, it's one of my favorite movies so I'm happy he won the Oscar. For the best song, I wasn't expecting that Oscar at all. I loved the song, it entered the list of my favorite, so I agreed with the nomination. But I never could imagine it would win. For me, Melissa's song was the best but Dreamgirls and its songs were more likely to win.
