I am fed up with my GP and have chosen a new doctor but haven't yet switched. I live in a small town with only 3 practitioneers, all of whom use each other as their emergency on call back up. My new doctor to be is one of the other 3. How can I switch practices gracefully, and improve the care I would like to recieve without complaining about my previous doctor? He has a reputation as not being very good, but the other doctors must consider him at least competent if they use him for back up.

We just switched and feeling of the old doctor aside, I am alot hapier. This new doctor has more time for us and answers our questions. A member of my family is on a long waiting list to see a consultant and she is going to try to get him moved up the list, which is something the old doctor couldn't be bothered to look into. I think he was just burnt out, and I'm sure he couldn't care less we left the practice. Just switch and never mind the fallout.

You can switch doctors and ask questions you pay them for their time don't allow them to get in and out leaving you with questions. When you see your doctor please make him aware that you have personal issues with the other doctor and you would not like to use him even as a back up. You shouldn't have to go into details. If you need medical attention when your doctor is gone try starting with the other doctor first. If its hospital related illness inform them upon admission and when you are on the floor that you do not wish to see Dr. X. medical care is very important don't jeopordize your health for someone else's feelings.
