i did not do any such thing, may be girls do it more often. i was busy destroying the neighbourhood with my gang instead....lol...what ever it was we did in our childhood it was the best time to be kids. children now are so burdened with studies that they seldom get time to go out and play freely..

i did it alot too. We somtimes put them in a jar for a short while to get a good look at them, then we set them free. I always tried to catch blue ones - I just loved them!
i think kids still catch butterflies. My niese catches bugs, or ugly-animals as she calles them. She does not let them go again.

I used to love catching the butterflies but only the white ones as I was scared of the coloured ones. I would hold them by the wings and examine them and then I would let them fly away. When I think of it now, I think it was a very cruel thing to do, as the poor little things must have been terrified.

yes i did...well i didnt exactly CATCH them...they were too fast for a clumsy kid like me! but i did enjoy running after them,my arms flailing like crazy(we didnt have nets then) and sneaking up on them, trying to capture them in the palms of my hand. i was really fun! the closest i ever came to catching one was when i sneaked up on a butterfly sitting on a branch.i gently caught its folded wings between my finger and the thumb...the wings had a powdery layer on them!! it just slipped right from between my fingers, literally! it always made me wonder...do all butterflies have apowdery feel to their wings? what purpose does it serve? is it to evade capture(as in my case) or does it reduce air resistance or what?

I remember catching dragon flies and lady bugs when I was a kid. Although I ran after butterflies when I see them...My uncle though collects butterflies and places their wings in frames = )

I have always loved butterflies as you have probably guessed with my avatar , I never caught them as I was afraid I would hurt them , My neighbour has a tree she calls her butterfly tree and they come and sit on it , They are so delicate , When you think of it the are just coloured months and yet I can't stand moths yuch !! xx

I do not like troubling even insects. After all even they have life. Why should we interfere with their freedom?
