Do you now allow yourself to have luxuries ?

Were you once always out of money and now you are doing better ? We were, we used to have to scrape for every penny and suck every bottle of ketchup, shampoo, laudry soap, till it was bone dry. Now I have found myself buying things I thought I never would. I use $10 bottles of shampoo, buy Tide for the clothes and downy fabric softener. I used to swear that when we were not so poor that I would keep doing things the same but it hasnt worked out that way. I now only buy kitchen Aid apliences (we still have to save for those) instead of buying cheep ones that have to be replaced all the time. I buy name brand salad dressing and chili. Etc etc etc, do you do this, I still buy all lot of store brand item but some things I have gotten very picky about. Anybody else start buying things they swore that they wouldnt ?

for me, it's the other way around. i had a well paying comfortable job in the big city, but i wasn't really happy. so i gave that up, and moved back to my hometown to put up my own practice and be closer to my family and loved ones. i'm not as well off as before, but i get by. i do miss the luxuries, but the satisfaction i get from living the life i choose more than makes up for it. i must say, i am happy.

Absolutely, My Hubby took a pay cut to move to day shift because when he waswoking nights he was there for 12 hours a day and sleeping the rest, we barely got to see him. We like it much better now even though he isnt making as much and only working 8 hours a day !

I grew up poor-enough that we didn't know we were poor ( untill we went to School ) I am still careful of what I purchase...but I have also come to realize that if you buy a quality product...it can last a lot longer then some of the cheaper products out there. As for your questions about Auctions. A lot of times ( in small little towns , usually out in the country ) there will be a facility which holds open-air Auctions, without reserves sometimes you can get really good deals, othertimes not. I do know that there is an Auction at some point in the year ( Down in Georgia ) held by the United States Postal service. The Post office Auctions off Items that were ( for one reason or another ) not delivered. And yes this also means large ticket items. You have to Write the Post office to request a reservation to this once a year event ( I have the address somewhere here if your interested in this option ) ( let me know )

Thanks for this topic. I too was dirt poor at one time using hand soap as shampoo etc. Now that my children have grown & moved I have more cash available. I buy the good hair care products when I get my hair done at the shops. I do shop at Aldi's which is a store that has & makes their own food products. They have many items that are just as good as name brands. Some items are just plain nasty. So I buy a few thi=ngs there. I also love to shop Sam's club in lot.Even though there are only 3 adults in my household I buy large quanties there & usually give my daughter & son a lot. My daughter just said she'd be over Sunday to grocery shop in my store. LOL. Thanks for this topic. As far as appliances I go to auctions or Sears Warehouses. Good quality products that usually have a small ding dent or paint chipped. Thanks again.
