How do you put a price tag on your products?

My husband and I have started our own small woodworking business. We started selling our products at local craft fairs, but between gas prices and the fees for the craft fairs I'm lucky if I break even most of the time. So we've been thinking about putting our stuff on ebay, but I have no idea as what to charge on ebay between their fees for posting a listing and then the fees for once you sell something. And I've looked on ebay and they don't have anything like what we make, so I don't even know what to start my listing at. Anyone with any ebay experience out there???

I myself go online and look up similar items that are for sale both on ebay and other sites that have this option to sell on and compare and then I add extra for the delivery prices..I just started on ebay myself and once you sign up to sell on ebay princess they will give you some good pointers on how to start out...I have done alot of research on selling on ebay just don't buy one of those packages they say you can buy on line to work on ebay you don't need them and all they want to do is get money from you by having you join somewhere else...Just go to ebay and sign up to sell and surf and see just what is out there...type in on the search for your item on any browser also and see just what is out there for that product on other sites and see what they are charging and maybe you can come up with a reasonable price...trial and error is what is working for me..I have lost a little but in the long run it pays to sell on ebay/

The first thing I will say is don't list at ebay - their fees are now ridiculous.
Go and have a look at the forums on ebid.net, join and get listing - it is FREE.
It is nowhere near as established as ebay, however you do have the option (I think this is account type dependent) of leaving your listings there for free, i.e. no relisting every ten days, with a fee every ten days.
If you feel you should stay with ebay because it is bigger, you should at least run your listings in tandem with ebay and ebid.net to maximise sales.
Ebay though is becoming very unpopular with sellers, who are now looking at less pricey alternatives.
I ran ebay and ebid.net in tandem for over two years. I finally packed in ebay eight months ago for a number of reasons - mainly its fees and lack of seller protection, which is actually now getting worse.
Good luck with whatever you try.

i think you should list your products in an online store your own or someone elses like layby.com something like that. It is very important for you to sell your products at a profit, profit on materials, labour and listing fees. If you dont recoupe your costs and make a profit then you will find you business will be costing more money than you are makeing. i know there are some sites that list your items for free. A great site is Oztion but sorry this is only for Australian residents, i'm sure there are more available in other districts.
