A Sad story :
This lady has changed her habit on the hand phone
after her handbag was stolen.
Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card,
purse..etc.. ..was stolen.
20 minutes later when she called her hubby, telling him
what had happened, hubby says
"I've just received your SMS asking about our Pin number
and I've replied a little while ago."
When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them
all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually
used the stolen handphone to sms "hubby" in thecontact list and got
hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the
moneyfrom the bank account.
Moral of the lesson :
Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your
contact list.
Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Dad, Mum
etc......
and very importantly,
when sensitive info is being asked thru SMS, CONFIRM by calling back.

That hurts.I never share informations like credit card, tax id,passport #,bank account# through sms .It's the same for emails. The only time I share these on internet is at an encrypted site I trust with my information.Neither do I store the scanned informations on my computer fearing the worst. If they need to be stored for easy uploading then it's best to store them on a pendrive and sharing on sms is out of question for me.Thanks for sharing.

I came across a discussion a few days back that presented a solution that foils the thief.I am not allowed to post the discussion url,but Mylot encourages to post references : http://www.remotext.com/media-centre/press-coverage/wired-2007-01.jpg

Word to the wise. Very powerful message. People store too much information into their cell phones. We think is convenient and helpful and harmless but we see differently here in this situation. We must use caution in these case sensitive matters.
