It's official. The OILERS will NOT be making the playoffs this year and have solidified themselves as a basement team for the next few years.
Edmonton did not get the defenceman they needed in the departure of Chris Pronger.
They get a couple of prospects and a first round pick in 2007. Garbage!!!!
Terrible!
Oilers Fans, get your tickets for the last few games cause there won't be a post season cinderella ride like last year.
Thanks for a crappy season Kevin Lowe!

Hey, hey... now we can't be winners all the time! LOL Do you know how long I suffered with a crappy penguins team before they got it all together. Consider it a building period. You can make a comeback at some point after getting some new blood and some hopeful prospects for the draft pick.

Actually, you're right.
I was just thinking. Smyth went to NYI and they are not going to be doing anything in the playoffs or even make it. Smyth can still sign back with Edmonton as he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Smyth is probably not going to want to stay there. Example if he went to Anaheim, they could win the cup and want to stay there.
The Oilers I think have 3 first round picks in the 2007 draft (including the one they got from NYI). Also, NYI just gave up some very nice draft picks. That player supposed to be better or like Crosby is coming up in 2007.
This could be a mastermind plan by GM Kevin Lowe afterall.
Alright I take it back. I am an OILER FAN for life!

Seeing SMYTH in another jersey was tough to watch.
ONCE AN OILER, ALWAYS AND OILER!
I really trust Smyth will be back and the Oilers unload Sykora, Nedved (although I do like these players, it just didn't seem to work out in the end) and maybe some younger guys to make room for Smyth and the defenceman (the hole that Pronger left behind) they so desparately need.
I said this before and it is SO TRUE!
NO PRONGER.... NO PLAYOFFS!!!!

The Oilers are finnaly trying to get back to were they were when they got Smyth. They are starting a whole bunch of younge blood with a few good defencemen. I think they will get Smyth back in post season. But even if they don't the Oilers should be a great team in years to come. It sucks now but I'm a fan out here in Ontario in a sea of Toronto fans so I try to follow my team as much as possable but it gets hard but it seems to me like Lowe is trying to get the whole team better for meny years. We are ot going to make the playoffs this year and Lowe knew it. He also knew the the Islanders had a good chance in the playoffs before Smyth joind and now they have a shot at the cup. So I think Smyth will realize what Lowe was trying to do and come back home. But Lowe will have to spend alot more to get him back.

Saw an interview with Kevin Lowe on HNIC after the Flames, Oilers game (4-2 Flames BTW...LOL) and it seems as though they were only around $100,000 short on their offer in comparison to what he got with the Islanders....now that either means that he is strictly a rental for the Islanders and may be back with the Oilers in the off-season, or he simply wanted out of Edmonton...With Pronger and Smyth gone now the backbone had been sucked out of that team....it really is too bad as I like to see a really good rivalry and both teams doing well (just as long as the Flames do a little better)

Yeah, I think Smyth will be back and Kevin Lowe has got some things to work with. He's got 3 first round pick in the upcoming draft.
It will be interesting to see what he does. I still don't know why he didn't fill the void (or try to) that Pronger left at the beginning of 06 season.
I really hate it when the Oilers make the playoffs every other year.
Just remember, the Oilers will always have more Stanley Cups than the Flames (& Canucks) put together.

Acosjo I responded to you in another discussion about this topic, but again how bad to you feel? As a Canuck FAN hahahahahahahaahahahahahahhaahahahahaah. As a hockey fan I am not happy with the way this worked out for the fans in Edmonton. Only time will tell if Kevin Lowe is genius, which I think he might be (little wink and nudge as Smyth was sent to NY) or if Kevin has his life to worry about it Oil Country!.
