Where do you start?

I am interested in getting a private level pilot licence for helicopter. I have no real idea where to start or what it will cost but from what I have found online, I am looking at a long process and alot of money to get there. If anyone has any information on the subject please post a reply ... Hope to hear from someone who has gone through the process of getting a pilots licence.
