I'll admit, at first, I was not totally on board with Firefly. Due to the "episode order" chossen by FOX, the first episode on TV (The Train Job) was not the first episode in the series....so needless to say it was a little confusing.
However once it came out on DVD, I decided to give it another try. So I started watching and getting sucked in...but I think the episode that really hooked me in was "Our Mrs. Reynolds". It was funny, clever, and had some lines and scenes that are so quintessential to the show. While this isn't my all time favorite episode (that's another discussion), it is the one that made me a Browncoat.
So...what episode got you hooked?

I don't remember what episode was I saw first, but I was hooked right away. Just knowing it was Joss Whedon was enough to make me want to watch. There are so many great episodes that I don't think I could pick a favorite. But the Jaynestown one was one of the best. And so were Shindig and War Stories. It's great to have the whole series on DVD, and in the proper order.

I agree. Havingit on DVD and in the proper order made all the difference in the world. Every person I have ever had watch the DVD's is hooked too. Just hink what could have happened it it was presented to the public correctly.....
I think I was a little resistant at first becuase I was so bitter about Buffy ending. Although now that Joss is doing the seaon 8 comic, I'm happy again :-)

I remember when Firefly first came out, I saw all the commercials on TV for it, but I could never watch it because I worked whenever it was on. I saw one episode, but I didn't understand what was going on, since it was in the middle of the season, so I just didn't have that much interest in it. Then, when Serenity came out, my friend dragged me to it, since we were both obsessed with Buffy and Joss Whedon. After that, I went out, and bought the show on DVD, and fell in love with it. So it was actually the movie that caused me to fall in love with it. And I actually got to meet Alan Tudyk after I saw the movie, when I saw him in Spamalot, and I was in awe when I met him. lol

What a great conversion story :-) I'm glad the movie inspired you so much. I know I did my best to drag many friends and co-workers to the movie...and had many "shindigs" where I would introduce people to the series, while serving themed snacks. It's a lot of fun.
that's so great you got to see Spam-a-lot, and Meeting Alan! How cool.
I got to meet Sean Maher (Simon), and Morean Baccarin (Inara) at a sneak preview they did for Serenity in Boston. It was a total surprise that they would be there. Apparently it was the first time they were seeing he whole movie too. It was a great night ;-)

It was a lot of fun and a total surprise. It was nice to see Sean Maher smiling, he smiles so infrequently in the show :-)
Morena is really pretty, but tiny! You could tell it was the frist time they had really seens the film and some of the more "difficult" scenes. Moreena looked like she might have been crying a little. I know I cried too!

aw, I'm completely jealous that you got to go to the Boston screening, and meet Sean and Morena. I heard about the screenings before I was really a fan, so I wasn't that interested in going. I wish I had been a fan before...it would have been amazing to meet them.

Actually the first episode i watched was the Trainjob. Initially i was just excited because it was Joss Whedon. So that basically hooked me.
I too thought i missed the first few epis lol Till i got the DVD.
My favorite episodes would be "out of gas", "our mrs. reynolds" and "objects in space".
Love the movie too. That's how i got my friend hooked on watching the episodes, by introducing her to the movie and she being a non-science fiction fan says a lot.

LOL!!!! How Funny. Yeah, there is a memorable scene in "Trash" isn't there. "Heart of Gold" is pretty funny. I love Jayne's interaction with the ladies, it's so funny how he gets himself all gussied up before going to the brothel.
That is also a great episode for all the tension between Mal and Inara....though it's so sad when she's crying.

Unfortunately, back when Firefly was on Fox, I only saw Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown, both of which got me hooked on the show but due to scheduling and whatnot, I couldn't bring myself to watch anymore.
Serenity was the real thing that got me hooked. I saw there was a Firefly movie and I immediately jumped at the opportunity to see it and bought the series DVD's later. No waste of money that was.

I remember when the show was on TV. I remember being pregnant with my 3rd child at the time. I also remember thinking it sounded interesting but there was something else on that I usually watched at that time (can't remember what but I know I always was watching something else).
Then one day I was bored and caught an episode and I remember thinking, "wow, this is a really unique show--who would have thought to combine a western with sci-fi." I tuned in to see another episode but because of my daughter being born (on Nov. 8) I really didn't get to watch more episodes. Next thing I heard the show was canceled. I was pretty mad.
Anyway it wasn't until my hubby FINALLY bought me the DVDs for my birthday in December that I got to watch them all and I figured out which episodes I had seen back in 2002. They were Shindig and Jaynestown.
It was definitely Jaynestown that got me hooked. I had no clue what was going on but it was so funny and different I just fell in love with the show.
I've now watched all the episodes and Jaynestown is still my favorite. I'm now half way through watching the series for the second time in the last month.
Serenity is one of my favorite movies, too. I don't have it on DVD yet but I've watched it at least a dozen times on cable.

The funny thing is that I hated Firefly at first. I had watched the Train Job when it premiered and all I could do was wonder if I had missed an earlier episode or something. I don't think I even watched the whole thing. Then when I found out about the episode order change, I rented the DVDs and begrudgingly decided to give the show a second chance. I watched the episodes in order this time, and just kinda sat quietly and didn't hate it enough to turn it off. Then somewhere on the second disc (either around Shindig or Jaynestown), I turned to my sister and said "Oh my god! I care! I love these characters so much! We have to watch more."
Thus ensued a crazy love fest and we finished the entire series in two sittings because it just got better and better from there. Looks like I'm a browncoat for life and I couldn't be more proud about it.

Wooo! Browncoats. It's kinda like a fever isn't it :-)
even know, I love getting people hooked on the series. Althgouht they are always a little mad at me after they finish the DVD's and say..."Ok, where the next season", and I have to tell them...there isn't a next season!

The episode that got me hooked was Jaynestown. I had seen the commercials for Firefly before it came out and wanted to watch it sooo badly. But Fox had it in a bad time slot and I always missed it (this was before TiVo was readily available). SO the first episode I got to watch was Jaynestown. And it was the last too. By the time I figured out the schedule and stuff, it had been cancelled. I was so bummed. But then my friends told me that it came out on DVD and I watched all the episodes in two days. At the end, I totally wanted more. I loved the characters. And I'm with you, Jayne (Space Animal mother)is my favorite and then the captian. So Jaynestown continued to be my favorite. I was very excited about the movie, but still wish for at least one more. I want to know more about the Preacher.

I was hooked within five minutes of the original (longer) pilot episode. My friend had the whole series on DVD and he showed me that one and "Shindig" one night. Within a few weeks, I bought the whole series for myself, and watched every episode in a single day.

Jaynestown with the ballad of Jayne was the one that really secured a spot in my DVD collection and in memory.
I actually SERENITY prior to watching FIREFLY, didnt make too much sense but everything got good (shiny) once I watched all of it.
...the man they called Jayne....he robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor...

I first became vaguely aware of Firefly when it was on the sci-fi channel over here in the UK, and at that time I wasn't particulary bothered by it. A year or so later my friends got hold of the box set at Uni, though I didn't start watching it straight away as I remembered I wasn't particualry interested before. THEN I sat down and watched an episode or 5 (can't remember, there was probably alochol, lots of) and there was no turning back, another browncoat was born.
Me and another friend then made it our mission to convert as many as our friends as possible! When the film came out I organised a minibus, as we were quite far away from a cinema at the time, to ship about 20 of us to see it. And then the next summer three of us went to a convention in London.
