Do you like borrowing books or do you prefer buying them instead? I most of the time borrow books if I dont have enough money to buy them yet. I also borrow books on genres that arent that much of my favorite and Im not sure I would like. And if after reading I find it to my liking, I would definitely buy it.

Yes, books are expensive nowadays thats why I only buy what I really want. You may want to try buying from book sales, books are a lot cheaper there. I also tried buying second hand books from amazon and ebay.

I actually do both. Most of what I read,I borrow from the librarybut those books that I buy are usually from my top favorite authors.I won't buy a book off the shelf from an unknown author,i would borrow it from the library first to see if I liked it

Im more like that too. I buy books from author's I know and I wont risk buying books from authors I dont know not unless it has a really good review from those who read it already. However, there are times when I buy it though I dont know the author, I guess it I buy it because of the title and storyline.

My preference is to buy the books that I want to keep, but it's not always true, because certain books I like to borrow from the library, like fiction, because I don't have enough space for all the books I've read over the years because they're also dust collectors. But I do like to save self-help books and others that I want to refer to in the future. I think this was an interesting topic for discussion.

Thank you for posting your thoughts on this subject. I do buy books from authors I like and from the genre's I read. My dad keeps on telling me that I should just stop buying and just borrow books because we are running out of space. Last year, I run through the books I have and chose the best ones because I was forced by my dad to clear some space :(

Normally my interest in a book is due to its usefulness. I don't read romance novels or best sellars but love books that provide theory or directions for creating things of my own. It is diffeicult to simply borrow these reference books because they are used differently from books purchased purely for entertainment value. I need to own the book so that I can go back to it and look up information that I need...so I have to buy it.

I have to agree with you on that one. Its hard if the book isnt yours expecially if those are the ones you will need to look up and check from time to time. I bought several books that I cant really borrow like the - candle making and gardeing ones.

I do both. I usually buy my cookbooks, unless I've just borrowed one from someone for a recipe. I go to our library weekly, to check out books. Then when I'm out, I always check out the bookstores for good deals Recently, I foung a huge sale a Books-A-Million and purchased several books for $3 each, from popular authors too.

Wow, thats a cheap price for books! I like to going to book sales and similar shops that sells second hand or previously owned books for a cheaper price. Im a wide reader and I read various genres, its good that we can buy the books for a less price. If you end up not liking the book, at least you wont feel bad about the price you paid for.

Normally, i wander around my school's library, looking for a book. If i find one there, i'll check it out. If it's not all that good, then i return it, and no money spent...but if its good, i run down to my local bookstore and try to find books by the same author-thats the only time i buy books

If the book is good and I want it to be one of my collection, I will buy it. I only borrow book if I am not sure if the book is good or not. Sometimes if I finished reading book that I borrowed, and I think that the book is interesting, I will buy it.

I usually buy because I have a busy schedule, so I never know when I'll get around to actually reading the books. It's better for me to buy, this way I don't have to worry about due dates at a library or giving it back to a friend. I usually keep books after I'm done reading them, but sometimes I resell them on ebay or another selling site I go to. I also donate the ones I don't want.

I prefer to buy books myself. I am exceptionally finiky about the condition and quality of my books and if I choose to dog ear a page or keep reading a single book over and over than I would prefer that it is my own book and not someone elses.

I like to think of myself as a book collector. In fact, one of my goals in life is to have my own private library. That said, I normally prefer to buy books. Sadly, though, college has depleted most of my funds, so I've had to go back to borrowing. I still get the satisfaction of a good story, but it's depressing to know that I can't have it in my collection to read whenever I desire it.
