No, I would consider chess a game, but not a sport. To me a sport is an activity that involves some sort of physical exertion. I don't think moving chess pieces qualifies as exertion.

chess is not a sport just like how poker is not a sport either. it's a game

I think you are exactly right chess is a complex and challenging game, but just that it is a game and not a sport. I belive some sort of athletic acts must be used to be considered a sport.
