I am going to take up golf lessons soon. I hope to be able to play well. Not to become a professional unless I turned out to be a hidden talent.
Do you play golf. What kind of satisfaction do you get when you are teeing off? Where is your favourite golf course? I'd like to learn from those members who are golfers.

I did took up some golf lessons about 5 years ago. Anyway, I never did made it. Till today, I still have my golf set of clubs and take them out to polish twice a year. I also hope to continue but it is quite an expensive game.

I play golf though I haven't gotten out that much because of work. It's a great way to spend some time outdoors, get a bit of fresh air and socialize. You get to meet some real characters on the course and most of the people are pretty down-to-earth. My favorite course is probably the Kananaskis Golf course, in the foothills of Alberta Canada. Beautiful scenery and open to the public. Pretty reasonably priced too. The biggest satisfaction is hitting the sweet spot and watching that ball sail down and land in the fairway...just the way you hoped it would.

Hi,I have now played golf about 3 years. That is a very addictive game, believe me. When I am teeing, maybe the best satisfaction is coming from hitting ball with driver. When you see your ball landing 250 meters away from you, that is the feeling I can not describe. I was not a hidden talent, and that you can see by watching my swing before I started to play golf. Video is located in the bottom of this page http://laatuaika.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html.
Video name is "Terrible golf swing". But I have made progress and now my handicap is 18.

I have been playing golf for close to 6 years now. It is my favorite thing to do, no doubt about it. When I tee off (and land in the fairway of course), I feel a mix of relief and confidence. When landing in the fairway, I now know I can be aggressive with the approach, which is where I have fun. There is nothing like sticking a ball 5 feet of the pin from 100+ yards.
I have really only played golf in Las Vegas, which is a heaven for golfers. Decent weather most of the time(although you will get very good at playing in the wind in Vegas). A few tips from my experience, so you dont waste any money.
1. You are starting out correctly by getting lessons as soon as possible. No reason to practice any bad habits you developed on your own. (my example below).
2. Practice what you are taught. Lessons typically last 30 - 60 minutes. You get alot of insight in a very short time. Finish the lesson, then take an hour or so practicing what you went through that day. You are paying good money for an instructor, do take advantage of the lessons and practice what you learn.
3. Dont go out in the beggining of your lessons and spend any substantial amount of money on new equipment. Wait until you are far enough into your swing development to go and get fitted and purchase a good set.
In my case, I was introduced to golfing by a friend. Went out and bought used clubs, started going to the range 3-4 times a week learning on my own. This went on for 2-3 years. Alot of money later (and still shooting in the 90'), I stopped playing cause I saw no improvment. 1 year later, I start taking lessons, go out and get a new set of Ping G5's (after 2 months of lessons), and now mmy Handicap has dropped from a 28+ to a 14. I won my 2nd ameteur tournament about a month ago. Trust me......work with a professional instructor. It works wonders...
