Is Deodorant And Antiperspirants The Same Thing?

Many people think that deorderant and antiperspirants are the same thing but the reality is they are not. Deordants work by neutralizing the smell of the sweat.Deordants are best to wear because they dont interfer with our bodies natural act of sweating. The body sweats as a natural cooling process. Antiperspirants work by clogging, closing, or blocking the pores with powerful astringents such as aluminum salts so that they can’t release sweat. I read somewhere years ago tht aluminum can accumulate in the brain. I am wondering if there is enough in antiperspirants to do any harm? Did you know that you can make your own deorderant? It is very frugal to make using baking soda. Baking soda neutralizes the odor of your sweat. Deodorant Powder 1/2 cup baking soda 1/2 cup cornstarch a few drops essential oils such as lavender or cinnamon Place the ingredients in a glass jar. Shake to blend. Sprinkle a light covering of the powder on a damp washcloth. Pat on. Don’t rinse. If the above deoderant is not for you how about making a liquid deordorant. Liquid Deodorant 1/4 cup each witch hazel extract, aloe vera gel, and mineral water 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin a few drops antibacterial essential oils such as lavender (optional) Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to blend. Makes 3/4 cup I do dnot know how long the liquidk deodorant will save.

I think that most brands make both deordorant and antiperspirant so you have a choice.

I never paid much attention to them, but you are correct, they are different. I have no idea which is better, but I would guess anti-perspirants might be. It might be worth it to make your own. I never thought about it.

Well I have to be honest Villageanne I never knew that. I only buy Deodrant but I did actually believe that they where both the same and I could never understand why they had 2 names for it. So this has cleared this up for me.

My hubby likes to use deoderant powder. I may make him some customized for himself. I got inspired while reading this. . . I used to perform as a clown, and to powder our whiteface makeup, we put our powder in a clean sock to apply. I think I will do this for hubby's deoderant powder. Thanks for the thought.

Some people find that they still smell with deodorants and therefore have switched to antiperspirants. I know that I used to use avon deodorant all my life and then it just didn't work any more and I had to go for the stronger stuff.

These are great. Someone with tender skin just may be able to tolerate these with natural ingredients. The jury is still out on the aluminum in the over the counter deodoratns and antiperspirants. Thanks much for sharing these for all of Mylot.

Thank you for that additional info villegeanne!;) For me , I do know the difference between the two, but never knew that I can make some of my own deodorants with some of our common household products!;) I think I can do a little experiment with it, and I hope that I can make it good.. Thanks again!;)
